Review summary

The whole cruise in general was average. It was a nice ship with nice ports. Service, food, entertainment, activities were all good but nothing was exceptional for the price of the cruise. Nothing gave me the ‘wow’ factor. I have paid the same or less on Royal Caribbean and Carnival and have had better cruises.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We got there early so there was no line. It was all smooth and quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was average other than at Cagney’s where we had an exceptional meal. LaCucina food was ok, but service was horrible. Our order was all messed up and took 2 hours. Our waitress seemed very confused and was absent most of the time. I would not recommend LaCucina because of the service and quality of food for the price. Main dining rooms were good but nothing exceptional. Surprisingly the buffet was better than expected. Food was hot and a great variety.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There are 2 pools. 1 adult (18 and over) and 1 kid. This caused an issue with my family because we had a 12 year old that was too old for the kiddy pool but not old enough for the adult pool. As a group with extended family if different ages, it caused another issue. My 18 and 21 year old nieces could not swim or hang out with my 12 year old because neither were allowed in each others pool. So I lost out on spending time with my family because I was stuck watching my 12 year old swim in a 3 ft pool with small children screaming and splashing all over. I understand the point of an adult pool but it should not be the main pool on the ship. There needs to be something to accommodate families with children of large age ranges. Rock wall, ropes course, waterslides, bounce pillow were all fun for my 12 year old.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Dj at the pool was fun. Burn the Floor was horrible. Boring and uninteresting. I am not sure why they would start out a show with a slow song?? Rock of ages was much better. Lively and entertaining.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
My son was not impressed with the kids club. Compared to other cruise lines, he said it was very boring. Also the check in and out process was lengthy.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
I was concerned about service since I read bad reviews prior to going. I was pleasantly surprised that the service I received was good. No one went out of their way but service was always prompt and friendly.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I thought the ship layout was good. I did notice a smell of sewage in most public restrooms and in our bathroom when the toilet seat was up. The public bathrooms were clean but did smell every time I used one. Also a few of the bars had a sour/stale beer smell.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Room was a good size for 3 people but balcony was very small. Cabin was kept clean.

Ports of call

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

4 out of 5
Took a private excursion. DO NOT leave the port area. Surrounding area is very scary and horribly run down.

Harvest Caye, Belize

3 out of 5
Not much to do and EVERYTHING cost extra.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Went to Lost Mayan Kingdom. Very fun but expensive.

Cozumel, Mexico

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I was expecting the worst experience due to past reviews but honestly this process was quick and smooth. The line was literally the whole length of the ship but constantly moved and we were off the ship within 10 minutes.

Hello, Being a very experienced cruiser, I would recommend Disney Cruise Line for your family. They do a fantastic job of having activities for every age of the family.

I have loved all my cruises so an "average" cruise is perfect for me. Fare for my upcoming Breakaway cruise was cheaper than Royal so I'm lucky. I will prepare myself for the toilets smelling like sewage and the bars smelling like stale beer. Sounds pretty average. Yeah, it's tough for a kid when their age is in-between. Luckily they grow out of it. In my kid's experience, the kids club was great when they found a friend and boring when they didn't click with anyone, regardless of the activities. Thanks for the review!
