Review summary

This was the longest cruise I’ve been on. This cruise was a memorable one and being in the Haven made it ten times better! We will definitely cruise NCL again! Thank you Marlon (our Butler) and Ciebo (Haven Restaurant Assistant Maitre’D) for making our vacation one to remember!

Embarkation

The Port of New Orleans needs to get it together. One officer says pull up here, one says stop here. It seems as if no one is on the same page. It was a breeze once inside the terminal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Haven restaurant was always a great meal! I found the food in Moderno to be salty. The salad bar in Moderno was great. Ocean Blue was worth the upcharge! Cagney’s ok. It wasn’t really anything to jive about. Margaritaville was free for Haven guests for embarkation day lunch. The nachos were good and so were the drinks. O’Sheehans was good for pub food. We did not eat in the main dining rooms but did order off their menu and the food was tasty. Wasabi was good, but I did become sick afterwards. The Garden Cafe was really good and the selections were phenomenal! The bars were never crowded and I never had to wait more than a few minutes for a drink.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The fitness center was spacious and had a variety of machines to choose from. The free-fall water slide was so awesome that I did it twice and felt like a kid again. The Haven pool and or hot tubs were never crowded and I had them to myself several days/evenings. The Ice Bar was a cool experience. The bartender gave us each four drinks instead of the two that comes with the experience!

Entertainment

We missed Burn the Floor.

Children's Programs

Toddler was with us the whole time.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I found the staff (for the most part) to be attentive and happy. They really do try their best to make your vacation a great one to remember. I did hear from some staff that they work non stop and have no days off. They were also working short due to some being sick and unable to work their shifts. Its not like on land that they could call someone in to cover so I completely understand.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Being on the smaller NCL Pearl, I found the Breakaway class ship to be very spacious. The ship did not feel too big and everything was accessible.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This cabin was phenomenal. There was more than enough room for us four adults and one toddler. The mini-bar area was really nice and placed well within the cabin. The balcony was perfect for having a nice breakfast coffee during sunrise and a glass of champagne and or a cocktail during the evening. The regular bedroom was spacious and had a nice bathroom. The master bedroom was awesome and it reminded me of the rear bedroom in a luxury motorhome. The master bathroom was AWESOME!!! The only downside was a foggy window above the soaker bath tub, which prevented us from looking out to sea. The window had a broken seal. There was also a leak from the balcony onto the living room carpet. Concierge did take care of the leak and we were generously compensated for the window and leak. The cabin was clean and the steward did a great job of keeping it clean. Our Butler Marlon was awesome and took care of all requests!

Ship tip

Longer sailings are better on larger ships!

Cozumel, Mexico

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

I love Roatan and the Jolly Roger Catamaran reef snorkel and lunch was good! Got awesome underwater footage during the snorkel and the lunch was good. At first the “rum punch” was “punch rum” but after telling the staff they became “rummm punches”!

Harvest Caye, Belize

5 out of 5
Harvest Caye is a nice place. I wish that your UBP could be used and food was included like in Great Sturrup Cay. It was a cool and cloudy day so the morning was long sleeves and jacket weather.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
I like the hustle and bustle of Costa Maya. We loved the wrestling show and the food.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is just not my style. I like the country feel and Grand Cayman was not that. It was our first time there. When we got to the port, we were greeted by a bus driver named Christine. She seemed friendly and talked about a resort on the seven mile beach. She showed us pictures and said that everything was included in the entrance free ($2.00) per person except food and drinks. We decided to take the $5.00/person ride and upon arrival we were surprised to find out that beach chairs were $12.00/person. We felt conned because she said everything (except food and drinks) were included. She denied what she said and stated it was a misunderstanding. We were refunded the resort entrance fee and given a free ride back to the port. We did have a funny experience when walking near a KFC as there were chickens loitering in front of the business😆.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

5 out of 5
I love the country and it felt just as that. We did feel pressured when leaving he port but it didn’t bother us. A family member picked us up and took us to the original James Bond Beach and it was an awesome time! Crystal clear water and the pier was nice. Awesome food (jerk chicken, whole fried fish and festivals) and drinks!

Disembarkation

The port of New Orleans needs to get it together. The employees are very rude and were yelling at people like they were children. It felt like a cattle call.
