Sadly after all the things that went wrong( we did have fun only because we decided that it was better than being at work...A few things to say and sorry if it seems like a bad pan review...This is basically a party on atmosphere...If you bring kids they will be subjected to language and a whole lot of drunken behavior...there are a lot of things to do but with 4000 passengers dont expect to be able to enjoy all of them...there are 4 (countem)small hot tubs and a small adult pool(kids pool is separate) only one hot tub is adult only so be ready to be kicked and splashed as you try and relax...hot tubs capacity is about 6 adults comfortably
Embarkation
3 out of 5
We did arrive early and were able to be dropped off very close(we have a friend in a wheelchair)...We were show where to go and led promptly to the check in area... so getting checked in was fine...I wouldn't advise getting into Manhattan without plenty of 'leeway' time.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Food was sub par in my opinion. Prime rib selections on 3 occasions were overcooked and not very tasty. Orders were very often wrong even to the point of ordering lamb and being served duck...asking for decaffeinated tea was a wash as regular was always served... desserts were often wrong also...the buffet was a better choice as you were able to get exactly what you wanted...overall service was plentiful but far too often confused and unorganized...as for drinks there were a few bartenders that were pleasant but most were arrogant and not very friendly...I will say the pool bar had Alberto and he was excellent
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
there was a lot to do actually maybe too much...seemed everything was crammed into a space to offer quantity not quality
Entertainment
3 out of 5
here is where I have to be objective...If you enjoy the risque side of entertainment leave your kids in the cabin for Rock of Ages(very sexual innuendo filled)...Burn the Floor was good but again scantily clad all of the live bands were excellent!
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
I will say most the staff were very friendly but often misinforming ...our room steward was top notch...service again was very disorganized and it did seem the was very little training
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
most areas of the ship seemed out of place to us...seemed we had to travel back and firth from forward to aft a real lot when trying to find similar places to go...discarded cups and plates all over ...not really all ships fault but come on ...drunks sleeping in front of cabins in hallways and 3am screaming from balconies...
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Cabin was nice ..Balcony was tiny...I am 6'-4 tall and didnt have any leg room sitting on the balcony chair...beds of course are always twins pushed together so comfort sleeping was not a fine point. bathroom layout was fine ....
Ship tip
Make sure you go to the two extra paying shows...Cirque and Wine Lovers...Cirque was very entertaining and the Wine Lovers dinner/show was awesome
nothing there to see...20 minute ride and $20 per person to get to Cocoa Beach...my opinion is they stop there to reload the ship...all excursion can be fun but you are talking at least 20 minute ride to nearest one..
This lil island was a lot of fun...you are tendered ashore which does take a while but the island itself is nice...the beach is rough make sure you have water shoes as the beach is more like a creek bed with rocks on the bottom...very hard walking in
Captain made a decision to not go to port because of bad weather back on east coast(new york) we spent an extra sea day bobbing in the ocean doing 9knts spped in 26-33ft waves...weather in Nassau was hot calm and sunny...they did refund $5 per person...whooopi
worst ever...system is set up to categorically disembark but no one followed it and it was a madhouse getting off the ship and through customs ....then you have to cross the highway to get to your transportation...never again...
Well seems your family saild prime spring break. I do agree ncl needs 2 pools on their larger ships, hopefully 2 on the encore. If you want less crowd try holland/seaborn/Acosta but be prepared to spend $7 for a weekend cruise.
I had a awesome time on the Breakaway. Fantastic staff, fantastic food. Loved the shows. I never seen a drunk person on the cruise. No complaint's from me. Love NCL🛳️
In my opinion bigger ships just aren't the same atmosphere as the smaller ships. I feel they are often under staffed for the number of guests. I do know "IF" one of NCL's shows is not appropriate for children it will be noted in the daily new letter. Often passengers will still bring their children. But it is their choice to do so.
We had an amazing time in the Breakaway food was fantastic but it is a more party atmosphere, but when you have people with unlimited drink packages you are bound to see some drunk people. Burn the floor dancers scantily clad? They are ballroom dancers that is the costumes they wear. They are smaller on DWTS. I loved that show, saw it twice. It is a madhouse getting off the ship, no organization at all. Only took me 15 mins to get off the Oasis.
Actually i thought review was acurate to our experience on the breakaway. We hated the ship, poor desigh. The crew foes nothing to keep order furing shoes or debarkation. Food was mediocre. We liked rock of ages and if anyone complains of content os scanty clad women they are deah and illiterate because it is announced multiple times and is in the daily planner. We like ncl overall but not tbe breakaeay.
