Review summary

I Love the Breakaway and am sad to see it leave Manhatten for New Orleans. Hoping the next ship from Manhatten has the Thermal Suites. We will definitely cruise NCL again. Love the ambiance and the elegance.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Lines were very long and confusing at the Manhatten Pier. No one listened to the staff and rushed to get farther in line. Very little organization and/or control.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining rooms were well done - Loved the Manhatten Room! Fantastic food at Cagney's Steakhouse! Not too keen on Moderno - a lot of different types of meat, but no sides. I think I went into meat coma...

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Thermal Suites in the Mandala Spa are the Best! From the Steam Room to the therapy pools - all great!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Great shows, but they were repeats from our first trip on the Breakaway. The actors were different and gave better performances than the first, but nothing changed. Burn the Floor was fantastic!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Great room steward. Nancy could not do enough for us!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very easy to negotiate, but could use an update...

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Small... Did I say Small? Yes, all cabins are small but you are not there for the stateroom. Mattress was not as comfortable, but Nancy, our steward was very friendly and conscientious.

Ship tip

If you could afford a spa suite, do so. You will have more room. Definitely choose the Spa section. The Thermal Suites are included -- not to be missed!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
If you do not take an excursion, there is not much to do at the port. Most shops were closed and only fish restaurants were open.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas Did not visit port

Waves were 11 feet and tendering was not wise. Captain went straight to Nassau

Nassau, Bahamas

Discover Atlantis was interesting. Was expecting to visit the WaterPark, but that was not part of the tour. I just wanted to see what is was like, but that did not happen on this particular excursion. Maybe, next time.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Long and annoying delays. We were scheduled for 9:20 am, but with the delays on the ship and customs, we did not get called until 10:15 pm. The line wound around the casino and back again, just to get off the ship. Only one person working the exit area. The elevator/escalator broke down and everyone scrambled for the stairs. I felt bad for the people with disabilities - not very pleasant for them. Customs only had 3 lines open for almost 4000 people. Again, long lines with very irritated people. We just barely made our bus to go back home. They actually delayed departure because we were so late.

Db01 ok because we are booked in May 20, 2018, to Bermuda I believe the first cruise is in April.

No. I specifically asked the cruise consultant when the Escape would be in NY and he said not right away. Maybe they changed their mind. Hoping that is the case. Thanks for the update!

Db01 the Escape is coming to NY 2018, maybe you are referring to another ship??

bethcooper16    7 years ago

Yes we booked the room that includes the spa!! Excited about that, although I would have loved all of the Haven perks, too!! Thanks

The Breakaway is leaving NY for New Orleans - The Escape will not be replacing it for a few years. The Escape's home port will be Seattle, WA. Hopefully, it comes to NY before too long.

to bethcooper16 - If the spa is not include with your mini-suite, you will have to purchase day passes - this can be pricey. Do not miss the Thermal Suites! Private adult pool with jets, bubble pool and the sauna and salt room is worth the price! The Spa stays open even when in port or in bad weather. It is under cover, so weather is not a factor. When we cruise, we spend most of our free time in the spa. Highly recommended.

was told that the Escape will be sailing out of Seattle for a few years. Darn!

We booked a Spa mini-suite and we are sailing this Sunday. I was sent an email to upgrade to the Haven but then I would have lost my Thermal Spa pass. And I wanted that more than anything else. Do you have any good inside tips or advice?
