Review summary

This was our first cruise and we were thoroughly wowed by the Norwegian Cruise line and the Breakaway! We have been telling everyone that this is the only cruise line to cruise on. We might look at a smaller ship next time - but there WILL BE a next time! Even with over 4,000 guests on the ship, everything ran smoothly. Most guests were courteous and most all were helpful to all the special needs guests onboard! we were very impressed with how NCL tried to accommodate so many special needs guests! That spoke volumes to us!!

Embarkation

This was our first cruise and we were impressed at the efficiency of the whole process!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was "over the top" in quality AND quantity! And the main dining rooms were as good as the specialty restaurants!! There was just not enough room in our bellies to handle all the wonderful food!! One of the days, we could hardly eat breakfast and light snacks the rest of the day! AMAZING!! Our absolute favorite was Ocean Blue on the Waterfront!! We can't stop talking about that!! The staff made us feel like royalty!! The different food themes, etc. in the main dining room was amazing! It was "specialty dining"!! I loved O'Sheehan's and only wished I had more time to enjoy the food there! AMAZING!!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We only did a fraction of the many great things available to do on this cruise! We loved being able to wind our evening out with a little blues/jazz music at Fat Cats ... and the game shows, bingo, etc. were fun. Even tho we are "seniors", we LOVED the spiral slides, pools, & hot tubs! It was impressive that there was truly something for everyone to enjoy!! We were thoroughly awed by the show "Burn the Floor" and "Man from Mars"!!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed so many of the various musicians all over the ship! ... especially DJ Diamonds, Raymond & his guitar, Blues & Jazz at Fat Cats, Aliah at the piano! ... so many wonderful musicians all around the ship!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent service from ALL the waiters, bar tenders, our room steward- Rodrigo, and all the ship's captains & staff! We TOTALLY enjoyed the Q&A with the ship's officers! It was so special to see the ship's officers walking around and interacting with the guests! We even had Vuk, the Head Hotel Director, give us his business card and said if we need anything to feel free to contact him! IMPRESSIVE!!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
EXCELLENT! We were constantly impressed watching the staff clean floors, dry mop wet areas for safety, and generally just kept everything clean! ... got a kick out of the "washy-washy" songs and encouragements by staff!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed being able to open our balcony door and hear the waves ~ what a wonderful experience - ESPECIALLY since this was our first cruise!!

Ship tip

Check out the Daily Activities the night before. We missed many fun things because we didn't look at it until that day ...

Ports of call

New York, New York

This is close to our home, so it made it a more pleasant experience not having to add an extra couple of days just to travel to the port.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

It was interesting. We took a 4 hour bus tour of the island, that turned into 5 hours because the driver was so interested in showing us as much as possible. We also took a sunset catamaran trip that was delightful! The captain & crew were so nice and very informative about the island, and the Rum Swizzles were great also!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It went very smoothly because of tips I had read before our cruise about only taking luggage that we can handle ourselves - so we didn't have to wait for luggage. We decided what time we wanted to eat breakfast, got our time designation color, and we left from there! I also appreciated that there were people there showing us which elevator to take to get a cab. We didn't have to fight NYC traffic to cross the street and try to flag down a cab.
