Review summary

Enjoyable last-minute cruise, but beyond disappointed in the cabin and disembarkation. The specialty restaurants are fabulous, especially the Brazilian restaurant – not to be missed.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was great, and Olga and Irma at the Martini Bar made our trip very memorable!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Many activities to choose from – always something going on. Need to keep the kids out of the adult-only hot tubs.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Very good service, except for our dinner at Cagneys. The service there was ridiculously slow and our waitress kept disappearing, forcing us to ask other waiters to get her for us.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
I have been in inside cabins before, but I have never been in a cabin so small. The bed was against the far wall, with only 2 feet on either side. There were 2 bunks above (not used by us) that made it impossible to walk along the side of the bed without banging your head on the bunks above, so in order to get into bed, we had to crawl from the bottom of the bed to the top. Additionally, in the space behind our cabin there was "crew only" access, and they were constantly banging things around in there and we heard what sounded like an ice machine all night long. Very disappointing.

Ship tip

Ask to be seated in Herminio Cruz's station in the Manhattan Room – he goes above and beyond.

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
Live in NJ and go to NYC frequently, so didn't do anything special before or after the cruise.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

Took the free ferry to St. George's and went snorkeling at Tobacco Bay on our own – very nice.

Disembarkation

We choose to walk off with our luggage at 8 am. There was some sort of problem at the port, so we didn't get called until 9:30, at which time they called everyone. The line to get off the boat started beyond the forward elevators, then took us all the way through the casino to the stern elevators and back again. Stood in line for over 1.5 hours. Many on line were saying they would never take this cruise again. Six months ago we sailed on the same boat, and while getting off the boat was not as bad, the lines at customs were over an hour long.

We were on the Breakaway Aug 27th sailing, had a great stateroom off the very back of the ship, huge balcony room, pleasantly surprised. As far as the disembarkation, we also did the self walk off and it was okay, they had us winding around the casino and all too and the customs line was very long. We cruised on the Escape last year out of Miami and it was very fast getting through it all there, so maybe it's NY port that's the problem.

That's too bad. When I cruise I'm only in my cabin to shower and sleep. There is plenty of room for that.

I think it is because NCL's ships have some of the smallest cabins. A regular balcony on Carnival and RCCL is the same size as a mini suite on NCL.
