Review summary

Took this cruise because it was out of NYC. Have taken many cruises before out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Will not cruise with NCL again. It is worth the extra money to fly to Florida to pickup a Princess or RCL cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick, smooth and efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was sub-par, drinks were watered down. Brazilian style restaurant all the meats were served well done. Could not get medium rare. Main dinning room food selections were sub par compared to Princess and RCL cruises that I have been on. Only good meal was when we paid extra for at Ocean Blue. Service was excellent and food was fantastic and cooked to perfection. But had to pay extra for good service and food. Why?

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Only one adult pool. No use of sauna's unless you pay to go to the Spa.

Entertainment

4 out of 5

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Service was just okay. Main staff barely understood English.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship was kept clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Typical size cabin. Can barely sit on the balcony, but all newer ships are like this.

Ports of call

New York, New York

4 out of 5
Bermuda is nice, but 3 days in one port is a long time.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

4 out of 5

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Waled out of our cabin at 8:45 and was through customs by 10:00 am. Very quick.

I googled Ship Mate and they were bought by Cruiseline.com in November 2013. “Ship Mate and Cruiseline.com have the same mission: to be the brand consumers trust to plan their cruise and interact with other travelers before, during and after their voyage. Ship Mate has done a fantastic job of building a cruise community on mobile platforms, while we have been focused on the web. Our goal in combining resources is to become the best cruise resource, regardless of which device customers use – their smartphone, desktop or tablet.” All I know is that there is a glitch in their system and they are working on fixing it.

Sorry, I actually meant to say .." how are reviews started on cruiseline showing up on shipmate to start a thread here ? " thanks..

alioop    7 years ago

By the way Ejan, I'm still quite confused as to how reviews from another site are popping up in threads started on shipmate ? It doesn't make sense , not to me anyway . Unless shipmate & cruiseline are one in the same , how is this happening, because none of my posts are showing on cruiseline ...

alioop    7 years ago

I don't know about all of that , I guess a couple of us really got it confused, but if you say you didn't snap ..I believe you. Maybe if you had explained at that time that you weren't being a jerk, nothing would've had to be deleted ? Just an observation, explanations help all to understand one another & have fun. Happy cruising ! 😎

I never snapped at anyone, but it's hard to tell how a person comes across in written words. I do know that I answered a question of "what was wrong with the ship " with an enumerated complaint list from the OP. At this point someone used "f" to me and most of the following "conversation" was deleted.

alioop    7 years ago

Thank you . Glad you finally explained that, I'm Sure the person you snapped at in a prior post ( Esm I believe) will like being informed as well.

Hi, alioop. I also posted this from the site manager of Cruiseline.com. It is his/her explanation of the "problem." "The full version of a cruise review as seen on Cruiseline.com is currently not presented in Ship Mate. Ship Mate users only see the "review summary" text. The Ship Mate app team has plans to fix this in a future version of the app." Ship Mate draws info from many different sources; Cruiseline.com is one of them. Best,

Question ...I've seen Ejan post several times on this site to " see full review at cruiseline.com ...how are posts from a completely different site ending up on this one , and why are they apparently only a couple sentences of that post ??????? Anyone know ?

What exactly was the problem that you weren't happy with NCL?

GIL155    7 years ago

Always glad to have you remain with Princess. I am in NYS but prefer FLL for departures.

If you are looking for a traditional cruise experience (and don't have children in tow) from the New York area, then I'd recommend the Celebrity Summit. No crowds, no reservations needed for shows, better quality food, no up-charges for menu items, quiet, larger cabin, larger balcony. Starting with their Concierge Class, there is a free welcome aboard bottle of "champagne" and afternoon canapes (juse a few nibbles but a nice gesture). If you move up to the next classification, you are assigned to a private dining room with superior food. Of course, it's all what you want in a cruise experience.

If you like Royal, they have the own terminal in Bayonne, NJ. Usually they do the 5 or 7 night Bermuda run from April or May till October then switch to the 7 -12 night Bahama w/ Coco Cay or Eastern Caribbean runs. Celebrity also sails from that port with similar itineraries, but tends to go to Tampa after the New Year for chartered theme cruises. RCI also sails year round from Baltimore.
