Review summary

This was our 3rd trip to Bermuda, the second time on the Breakaway.  This time, I traveled with 2 sisters and 2 daughters.  We got a pretty good price on a family oceanview stateroom on Deck 5, that worked really well for the five of us. (A special thanks to Kathy Trefelletti at , who was patient with several plan changes, knowledgeable, reliable, and gracious to work with.)

Our stateroom was perfect, and our steward Bryan friendly, and always willing to be helpful.  Early on, we asked for a egg crate mattress pad for the sofa bed, which made it more comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised by the ample closet space and the size of the bathroom.  The beds were comfortable, and the room was not noisy.  We were across from the medical center, which was quiet that week.

Since we went in May, there were a number of children, but probably not nearly as many as June through August.  We weren't bothered by the kids, and had no trouble finding lounge chairs on the deck, or any long waits to get into the restaurants.  We liked the food in all the main dining rooms and the buffet, but were disappointed that the Uptown Grill had been replaced by an added fee restaurant.

So, we were very satisfied with accommodations, cleanliness, meals, activities, staff, and even the embarkation and debarkation, though the latter did take a little while.  The one place that I think there is room for improvement is the entertainment.  Having done this cruise in 2015, it was a bit disappointing that the evening entertainment was exactly the same.  We did enjoy Burn the Floor and several Second City improvs,  but did not enjoy Rock of Ages.  It was well enough done, but raunchy and not interesting. It seems a family friendly ship could find a better Broadway show.  Once again, the movies were at inconvenient times, often late at night.  It would be an improvement if there were more evening entertainment options, and if there was more room in the Atrium, where Alvin and Emily were often singing. We really really liked the Broadway singer, and would have enjoyed more shows like that.

This was no fault of the cruise, but we unfortunately had cooler and windier weather than our last two trips.  This meant that our trip to the Horseshoe Bay was not as nice as the past, and that the ropes course and mini golf were closed a couple times due to high wind.  With the upper deck closed, we had to work a little harder to find  things to do, and we were glad we brought some games with us.  A little sad, but by no means disastrous and  Bermuda continues to be beautiful and friendly.

I think we would consider doing this cruise again, but probably not in two years. I think we got good value for the money, and we enjoyed the trip, just not quite as much as last time.

Not huge, but big enough for 5 adults who mainly used the cabin only for sleeping. Plenty of closet space. The bathroom had a double sink and tub, and so was spacious. The room was not in a noisy location. Bryan, our steward, was fantastic. The sofa bed is a little tight for two, and is improved with an egg crate mattress cover. It was nice to have the window, and the extra storage on the wide sill.

Ship tip

I'm glad we brought books and games. Since the upper decks were occasionally closed, we had more activity options. I was pleasantly surprised how little time our group of five spent waiting to be seated at the three main dining rooms, but we tried to avoid going when the big shows were getting out

Great review....question is the Uptown Grille the same place I have seen some reviews refer to as "burgers on 16"?
