Review summary

I contracted an eye infection on the ship and saw the ship doctor and it cost $980.00! Way too expensive and I am still battling with the eye infection . I saw an ophthalmologist at home! I am VERY UPSET about this! I was also disappointed that 5 restaurants cost extra money! There was no chest of drawers in the room!

TRAVEL INSURANCE!!!!!!!!

They are scheduled to go to I believe Denmark next summer. I would assume whatever military branch serves that area.

Pardon me for asking a question that could be taken to mean anywhere in the world. I should have said given the Breakaway's sailings since being placed in service in NYC. But I am curious If the Breakaway was in the Baltic, who would provide airlift service ?

esm54687    7 years ago

Well, if the Breakaway was in the Baltic Sea..... the USCG wouldn't air lift you but since the OP's rant is based on a Bermuda itinerary then yes.... the USCG would get you

ICruise4Bacon    7 years ago

I agree and always purchase insurance. It costs less than a drink package. I used it on my last cruise, but I was only 'reimbursed' for medical costs not covered my insurances. The USCG would air lift you from the Breakaway regardless of it's position ?

clferr    7 years ago

i am well aware that the USCG doesn't charge. Just that everyone is complaining about how much it costs, yet they don't want to spend the extra money for travel insurance.

esm54687    7 years ago

actually, the US Coast Guard doesn't charge for the sea rescue / air lift.... so, that's one thing in your favor

clferr    7 years ago

Can only imagine what it costs to be airlifted off the ship!

medical center visit $149 during posted hours ( $184, non posted hours; follow-up $79 ) eye irrigation $75 per eye, eye exam $45 , foreign body removal corneal $199 or conjunctival - superficial $ 145 and plus medication..... adds up fast

we were on the Breakaway this past December, my husband had to see the ship Dr and ended up having to stay the night and be on antibiotics for 48 hours, needless to say it was it was very expensive $3100.00 dollar's. Luckily his health insurance paid most of it. I will definitely be getting in travel insurance for our next cruise.

Wait...... recliner?? Yes please

randytownsend5    7 years ago

I'm very upset that people do not do their research. Chest of drawers- really? It's a cruise cabin not your home. Would you like a recliner, side by side fridge as well.

@DottieDiehl, No the ship's do not take most standard issue health care. You generally need traveler's insurance, either purchased independently or from the cruise line. The even with traveler's insurance on board or in port you may need to pay out of pocket at time of service, seeking reimbursement via claim form once home.

I wonder what your ophthalmologist submitted to your health insurance in addition to any specialized tests done and then your prescription drops at CVS...... I bet it's pretty darn close to what NCL charged (think out-of-network insurance)..... what was the cause? Did you wear your contacts too long? Not wash your hands well enough and then touch your eyes? Too much sun? Did you share a face cloth with someone who already had an eye infection? Was it preventable? Whether it is on a ship, a resort, or a walk in clinic...... medical costs are not cheap. Did you buy travel insurance? You may be able to get reimbursed.

That seems very excessive for a dr appt. the cabins on the breakaway are very small and not set up well. Even by ship standards. The breakaway is one ship we said never again on and we have sailed more than a dozen ships

DottieDiehl    7 years ago

Does the ship accept health insurance plans?

TNTGreen    7 years ago

Did you not research the ship and cruise line to see what's included and what's not?
