Review summary

The ship was beautiful, very big.  My husband is 71 and has heart problems. His feet began to swell he could barely walk from all the sodium in the food we ate at the buffet. I called and asked for a wheelchair and was told it would cost $300 for the week. I didn't have an extra $300. I thought wheelchairs were free to use, apparently not. I could understand if the $300 was a deposit and I get it back when I returned the chair. So because of that, we never left the ship to go enjoy the island. The also cancelled the stop at Great Sterrup Cay island. That was disappointing also. For anyone going to drink more than usual, which I did. Buy the drink package because the cost of the drinks were ridiculous and the added in there own tip. This was our first cruise, very disappointed.

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

Heat will also give you edema. Being on your feet a lot too instead of resting with feet elevated. When they start to swell he should sit or lay down and elevate feet above his heart, two, three pillows under legs/feet, on a bed or lounge. Definitely avoid sodium, as much as possible. Next cruise request a low sodium diet, wear electric stockings too will help.

Patty. ‚ Just as well that you didn't rent a wheelchair. ‚ The passageways are too narrow to get by all the "stuff" from rooms and cleaning carts and bags that housekeeping leaves out ALL DAY.  I sometimes use a walker when the ship rolls and I couldn't get down the hallways with it.  And, you definitely wouldn't be able to get into a regular cabin with a wheelchair because a walker wouldn't even fit.  I've been on other ships and this IS NOT the normal situation.

This was are first ever cruise, never was asked about food restrictions and I didn't know there was an option. We do take responsibility for our own actions, but we were on a cruse trying to enjoy.Yes husband got a little carried away at the buffet. We didn't expect his feet to get that swelling in one day. Lesson learned! As far a the wheelchair goes I stand by what I said! Maybe they don't supply them on demand buy geez $300. Rental NO- Deposit YES. I wanted to borrow it not buy it. Also, I do understand they didn't stop at the Island for safety reasons, but I was a little disappointed, I was looking forward to that.

If you are talking about a motorized wheelchair, then the going rate is about $250-$300 a week delivered to the ship for you.

The only "spice" this ship knows is salt.  There is so much salt in their pre-mixed eggs that they are barely edible.  At the omlette station I asked them to break an egg that was in a basket and they refused to do it.  They insisted on their pre-mixed, god knows what it contained, "eggs."

Don't eat at the buffet next time.

many times sea is too rough for tenders to get to grt stirrup, so gets cancelled.

I too had swollen ankles. they recommend l notify them for salt free diet & they will cook whatever l want. I plan on doing that. many travel with wheelchair. lot of walking from ship to shore, as well as on ship. make it easy on yourself & enjoy your next cruise!

I totally agree $300 is outrageous for wheelchair rental! But could have been avoided by following low sodium diet every person who has an heart condition is instructed to follow low sodium diet. People need to take responsibility for their own behavior instead of blaming it on someone or something else!

They do allow you to bring wheelchairs from home.

I think 300$ is OUTRAGEOUS for a one week rental! anything to make a buck! some of these people will attack you if you have one damn negative thing to say about the breakaway but I completely think you have every right to be upset, they could have gone the extra mile and supplied a wheelchair if you couldn't afford one. that's really shitty customer care in my opinion. It sickens me. Perhaps normally he wouldn't have required a low sodium diet per say but couldn't handle the excess sodium that was used, stop attacking the victim!

I can emphasize with your husbands swollen feet but I don't think is fair to expect any cruise ship to supply wheelchairs on demand for free. I've seen swollen feet at all inclusive land resorts. It's not a very common issue on cruises. I wouldn't go to a hotel and expect the hotel to supply a wheelchair for free on demand, why should a ship? Hope your husband has recovered and life is back to normal now.

There are many other places to eat that you can request low sodium meals. What was reason for cancelling stopping at port weather? Would you rather them stop and put people at risk tendering to shore.

When I booked, I was asked if we had any dietary needs. Did you tell them your husband needs low sodium food? Alcohol can cause your feet to swell as well.
