Norwegian Breakaway

7 Night Bahamas & Florida (New York Roundtrip)

Sail date: December 14, 2014

Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Large Group

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Review summary

The Breakaway is not a ship I would recommend based on size and lack of abilities for a large ship. We travel with a group of 14 people of varying ages, the youngest was 6 months and the oldest being 72 years. 1 person has severe allergies and to date NCL has had no problem accommodating her but on this ship it seemed impossible according to a chef who said they couldn't make dairy free sorbet that she wasn't allergic to. Every night there was a problem with the food for her. As I mentioned earlier, we have traveled with NCL since 2006.  12 trips so far but the Breakaway was the first that wasn't able to take care of someone with special needs.

Cabin lighting is a good European design, meaning you use your room card to activate it. The Balcony is extremely small. You can not sit with your legs facing out, only to the side.

Ship tip

Breakaway stabilizers work well to steady the ship :)

I am worried after reading this my son has celiac disease and is on a gluten free diet I have been told over and over again it is not an issue - I have been in touch with the NCL access desk and have faxed over paperwork to them - this review has me worried

I am so surprised to hear that they could not accommodate your friend's food allergies.  I know that they can for the appetizers and the entrees.  Perhaps it was just the desserts that couldn't be prepared separately.
