We had a relaxing time- didn’t “do” a lot of shore excursions.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Not in synch with emails from Holland America. We received emails suggesting that we use the VeriFLY app to gain access to shorter lines- did not happen. Also, we received emails (plural!) from Holland America giving us boarding group numbers and a boarding time. These did not happen either. Last the embarkation area had poor acoustics so that announcements were unintelligible
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Second Pinnacle steak was subpar. Asian specialty restaurant was great. Buffet very good. Skip the buffet pasta and Canneleto.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Trivia contests were fun. Fun at oragami.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Cover band at Rolling Stone was awesome.
Children's Programs
No kids
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Room stewards, some bar staff, and some buffet staff were very good
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Stuff wasn’t working- ice and water dispensers and some automatic doors, for instance
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Not a good cabin- balcony light nonfunctional as it would interfere with the functioning of the bridge.
This is a long way from any smoking area (one of our party does smoke.)
Noise from the wind at the bow is significant.
This will NOT be a choice again.
Ship tip
Be patient. The clientele is a bunch of old folks (like us) many of whom are in their late 60s to 80s and beyond. Lots of wheeled walkers throughout. The clientele as a rule is pretty mellow.
The Bajari Escape has two iterations:
1) “all inclusive.” Nope, a welcome drink, a beach umbrella (tip the guy who installs it for you), and one pass through the “buffet”, great jerk chicken, nice rice and beans, some slaw.
2) the cabana. Choose this option- up to 4 people can stay for one price. Comfy, sturdy it’s a permanent building), great for when it rains, as close to the beach as the umbrellas, and you get an assigned staff member for your a la carte food and drinks. Tip her, too. Our food and drink bill for 2 people? $34.00. No American Express- Visa/MC/Discover and cash.
