Entertainment was great; food was good; service was exceptional; accomadations very poor.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
As I am a handicapped person, embarkation was very smooth. We received our room key quickly and we were escorted to our room by a member of the staff.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We liked the buffet since it was served by members of the staff. Lots of variety. Food in the main dining room was good but not great.
Except for the cherries jubilee which was great.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Enjoyed the hydro pool and all of the amenities in the spa.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We were on the Gertrude Bryne Irish cruise and all of the entertainers were top notch except for the headliners Charly Pride and Engelbert Humperdinck. Those guys should retire already.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the staff and service teams were exceptional. All of our requests were handled expeditiously.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Did not like the layout of the ship. Only two small pools on the lifo deck. Not adequate for the number of people on board. Felt claustrophobic. In addition when the dome was closed it was extremely hot and suffocating. Unable to enjoy the music. In addition not enough bathrooms on the lido deck. And several of them were out of service. Again inadequate for the number of people on board, not enough chairs on deck.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
This room was so small and uncomfortable that I may never choose Holland America again. The chairs were so uncomfortable that we had to go to guest services and request a change. Inadequate storage space no drawers only shelves. The room was kept clean and orderly. We liked the grooming products the soap shampoo and conditioner. Although the conditioner was very hard to operate. The room was tucked into a corner of the ship giving it a triangle shape which eliminated living space. I other words the accommodations were very disappointing.
We find it best to sit down with our travel agent and choose our cabin based on our needs. Larger rooms are available. Accessible cabins make accommodation for wheelchairs, walkers and other special equipment. On HAL ships we have travelled on, there are also drawers under the bed to accommodate clothing.
