Satisfied with waiters, room stewards, and other staff but disappointed in cruise.

Review summary

Our cruise our stay over port of call in Cabo was interrupted due to Tropical Storm Madeline. We ended up spending an extra day at sea versus in port. I do not understand why the cruise was not diverted to another port of call i.e. Ensenada versus sailing to Cabo just to have to go back out to sea. The captain knew the odds of us being able to disembark on the first day at Cabo was not good. Would have much rather spent a day at another port versus back at sea.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation was good. I purchased the Key Package the first few folks had no idea what I was talking about. But, finally found someone to help me receive my Key Package documents.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food and service was at main dining room and Jamie's Italian excellent. Food was great at Windjammer but service was not as good, slow at coming by and cleaning tables and bringing beverages.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the pools.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows were great and bands at Boleros and Star Lounge were great. Piano bas was average.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship needs some cosmetic work. On the 9th deck there was a smell of mildew in the hallway leading to my cabin during the entire trip.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great cabin plenty of room for two people.

Ports of call

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
We only spent 4 hours in Cabo San Lucas. Looking forward to going back and spending more time there.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Could have had better directions for Key Package members to disembark ship. Signage would have helped.

Glad you enjoyed it. 4.4 out of 5 stars is about as good as you can expect on Cruises now.

It’s not like if you decide you’re not going to a port because there is a storm and you’ll just head on over to another one. As stated above , ports are not simply open to whomever shows up at their door. A great deal of timing, logistics and government documentation not to mention port fees are involved. Imagine if a ship was booked into a pier that can accommodate two ships and say three other cruise ships just “want” to go there because of a storm……take a look at any port you’re going to online. Then research the shipping Calendar. You’ll see in some cases that some cruise ships are booked years in advance to make a stop in that port.

As was said , don’t cruise during hurricane season and problem solved.

The captain isn’t the one who decides if the ship can dock at any port. It’s the port authorities of said port. Glad you still managed to enjoy your cruise.

If you sail in hurricane season you have to expect this.

I would take a day at sea over Ensenada anytime
