Nautica

30 Night Serenity To Safaris (Dubai To Cape Town)

Sail date: December 07, 2019

Ship: Nautica

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Reviewed: 1 month ago

Review summary

Oceania will need to figure out how to supply simple, fine cuisine rather than the typical quick buffet type offerings on the ship. Also not safe food temperatures I think. Mayo and tarter sauce not refridgerated as far as I know. Some food items may be stored overnight and served the next day making fresh food impossible. Multiple Asian food nights for example. Asian food on all ships are nothing like properly prepared Asian food in major cities in the US. I could not eat anything. Lobster in the specialty and main dining smell funny and I heard many complaints. Food manager and Chefs were attentive but the problem is more difficult a fix. Cuisine needs to be rethought out and made smaller, fresher, better quality.

acceptable

Ship experiences

Entertainment

2 out of 5
OK performers but not all the level of larger ships

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Large balcony on aft was the only really great thing. Noisy vibrations above engine though.

Ship tip

Wait till the ship gets refurbished. Don't expect great food unless the food management has better port choices for supplies.

only a mosque and a mall here

Muscat, Oman

Take a real tour and enjoy this port

Mumbai (Bombay), India

2 out of 5
Nice experience but not the best of tourist conditions.

Mormugao (Goa), India

Nothing really here. Take a taxi group to the major locations for a cheaper tour. Beaches are not on par with nicer beaches around the world

New Mangalore Port, India

1 out of 5
Nothing here but a mall they dump you off at.

Cochin, India

4 out of 5
Nice backwater tour otherwise not that exciting

Male, Maldives

1 out of 5
Male is very ugly and trips to the nicer islands almost impossible.

La Digue, Seychelles

5 out of 5
Beautiful beaches and rock scenery. Snorkeling meager here

Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles

More crowded than La Digue or Praslin. Scuba was sub par to better diving locations in the world but fun otherwise. Boats are small and bouncy.

Port Louis, Mauritius

Depending on weather. Rain you won't see much. I went to Ile Aux Cerfs golf course and beach. Recomment that if you are a golfer or love turquoise beaches. Beautiful

Pointe Des Galets, Reunion Island

Fun thing to do. Rented a car and make sure they pick up at the port. Our car company Alamo didn't so we walked 5 miles to the store which ended up being enterprise which we didn't book with.

Maputo, Mozambique

Scary country. The ship dumps you off at a high sales arts and crafts fair that is not worth seeing.

Richards Bay, South Africa

Safari time. Book an overnight and meet the ship in Durban with Tim Brown tours. Or take the ships expensive safari for the day.

Durban, South Africa

2 out of 5
Some nice areas but downtown is scary and poor. Nicer areas are probably the suburbs. They probably have some nice safari options close by

Cruise Cape Of Good Hope Did not visit port

rainy and foggy. This is actually not the tip of Africa anyway

Mossel Bay, South Africa

5 out of 5
Beautifull small city on a sunny day. Everyone having fun on the beach and don't miss the lighthouse areas and rock beaches.

Cape Town, South Africa

4 out of 5
Nice only around the wharf. Never go out at night unless you are directly in this expensive wharf area or you may get robbed at knife point. We were close to the ship but not in the wharf side where all the tourists are. Constant begging and Scammers all around Cape Town.

Disembarkation

Sad looking faces on 2 people watching us get off. No words spoken. Maybe because of the robbery the night before.
