Review summary

This was a marvelous scenic cruise, unfortunately we never got to see the northern lights even though I stayed up late on several nights in the hope they would appear. 3 of the 4 ports were excellent. MSC need to look again at using Maloy as a port.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Absolutely horrendous experience. Boarding time was 13:00, actual boarding time 15:20. Spoke with other guests on board and it would seem that the first people who boarded were on within 20 minutes however as the time ticked by, MSC it would appear could not keep up and so the queue started to grow and grow. What should have been made clear on MSC boarding instructions is that there is no internet signal inside the boarding terminal and so if people had all their documents printed off the whole process would be a lot quicker.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food and service in the main dining room was superb. A special thanks to William and his crew from table 481 in the Minuetto dining room.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
No shortage of things to do or to take part in.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The evening shows were good. I particularly enjoyed Moondance and the "psychic comedian".

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
What a shame the embarkation and disembarkation were such a shambles. I feel the drink waiting staff either require more training or senior staff to get amongst the waiters to gee them up. Although not all the staff let the side down a good few of them with their slow service and apparent nonsolonce attitude did.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Superb ship and the best lift system I have ever come across on any cruise ship. Never waited for more than a minute between calling the lift and stepping out of it even when coming back on the ship after a shore excursion. My only criticism of the ship is that for a balcony cabin it has the smallest balcony and bathroom I have ever experienced.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Lovely roomy cabin however the balcony and bathroom are very small.

Ship tip

Make sure you get an early boarding time or be prepared to queue and hope it does not rain.

Ports of call

Olden, Norway

5 out of 5
Beautiful and scenic, what I imagined Norway to be. Took a tour on the little train which was well worth it because of the sights.

MALOY, NORWAY

2 out of 5
After the highly scenic scenery and tours of the previous ports, this port was a complete let down. Only here for half a day but a complete let down for the final port compared to the previous ports.

Haugesund

5 out of 5
Beautiful and scenic, what I imagined Norway to be.

Flaam, Norway

5 out of 5
Beautiful and scenic, what I imagined Norway to be.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Horrendous, waited well over an hour to disembark with the self disembarkation. It was chaos.

I was on the same cruise. Queued for an hour to get aboard which is the longest I’ve ever had to do ! I agree with you about Maloy, a bit of a waste of time really and I believe MSC have dropped it now. Great review, thanks.
