Beautiful Ship! If you can afford the Yacht Club….do it. It is so worth it!

Overall it was a relaxing cruise. We are already planning the next cruise on MSC

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation is mind blowing for Yacht Club members. From the time of arrival at the Port of Miami it only took about 30 minutes tops to get on board. Pretty impressive.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Mainly ate in the Yacht Club restaurant. The plates were pretty and the flavors were good with most of the dishes but some of the dishes were over cooked which is why they get 3 stars. We are not food snobs by any means but we both are excellent cooks and have dined at a few of the top restaurants in Houston so we know how most dishes should be prepared. Surprisingly, we both agreed that the food at the buffet on the 20th deck was often better than the food in the actually restaurant in most cases. We also ordered a pizza which was delivered to our cabin and folks, it was a great! Was not expecting pizza on a ship to be so good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
They had plenty of activities for all taste. We don’t gamble because we are sore losers so we did not do that but they had plenty of things to bet money on in the casino. We did not attend any shows but heard they were great. The White Night Party was a blast (just be prepared to get about a hour of Cardio in lol). Hung out at the sports bar and watched Wisconsin vs Ohio State which was awesome to see our Buckeyes roll the Badgers…O-H! I used the fitness center and it was nice, just remember Americans that this is a European based ship so all the weights are in kg and not lbs so what ever it states on the dumbbell, multiply it by 2.2 to convert to pounds. The Yacht Club pool was awesome! Plenty of space so if you want to mingle you can but if you want to be away from the crowd, you can do that as well

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The couple of DJ sets that we encountered (at the white party and the party at the Yacht Club pool) were pretty decent, they just need to let the songs play instead of trying to fit 100 songs in 2 hours lol. Although I stumbled in on a rehearsal for a show on accident (was roaming the ship while the wifey was resting) and it looked cool, we never actually went to any of the shows but again, we heard they were great from others

Le Cabaret Rouge

Cool place to hang and here some live cover music

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service in the Yacht Club was absolutely incredible up until the day of disembarkation. We went to the Yacht Club restaurant at 6:30 am and did not get our order taken until 30 minutes later. There was not a lot of people in there and there were a few people that got served before us that arrived after us. So that put a damper into what was otherwise a great experience. We both felt that they acted like since we were exiting the ship that we no longer mattered. Just a bit of of advice MSC, we opted to pay more for that level of service from the time we got onboard until we got off board. Our junior butler was outstanding and I am ashamed that I cannot remember his name. Our Butler Primas was outstanding up until the day of disembarkation which I will talk about in another section. Also, the staff outside the Yacht Club was very attentive as well, just keep in mind if you are in the Yacht Club, that the level of service is not as attentive outside the Yacht Club

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
What can I say, the ship is a masterpiece. It is elegant, modern/contemporary and absolutely beautiful. Just what we expected on a Italian Cruise Ship. Not sure from other reviews why some had a hard time navigating around the ship. I found it easy to get around by the second day. Guess some are directionally challenged and some are not. Never had a long wait on the elevators both in and out the Yacht Club so not sure why people complained about that in previous reviews. The only thing that was somewhat tricky to get to was the water slide but other than that, she is a great ship

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was awesome. We actually booked an interior cabin and upgraded to a balcony on day 2. If you can afford it, book a balcony. Not saying that the interior cabin was bad, but the one we had which was 19022, you can hear every toilet flush and we believe one of the utility rooms was near us because we can hear doors closing all evening. But in all fairness, the initial cabin was not bad at all. We are not big people so the shower in the interior cabin, although a tight fit, we made it work but if you are tall or a heavy person, you may find it a bit uncomfortable. The shower in the balcony room could fit 3 people who are less than 5’8 and less than 170 pounds.

Ship tip

Keep an open mind. This is not an American based cruise line. Embrace the many different cultures and languages. Most importantly, have fun and relax.

Ports of call

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

4 out of 5
This ended up being our first stop due to Fiona. The Island is absolutely stunning. The only reason why we gave 4 instead of 5 is because there was so much coral in the Yacht Club area that you had to wear water shoes to get in the water. This is not a party island, it is geared more for relaxation which was perfect for us. Make sure you research your itinerary so you will know what to expect

Disembarkation

So this is where everything went from mind blowing to crap! Our Butler Primas requested that we be ready in the cabin by 7:10 am to be escorted off the ship. Really did not have an issue with that but my wife was part of a couple Yacht Club groups on another social media site and there were many that stated that they were allowed to stay in the Top Sail lounge until 10 am due to late flights so we asked and was told no we couldn’t. But here is the issue, the restaurant did not open until 6:30 am, as previously stated, we sat for 30 minutes before our order was taken (we almost got up and left twice), we finally get our food around 7:05 and no damn way we’re we gonna try to eat in 5 minutes, so after eating, I went to the cabin to get our stuff to bring down to the Top Sail Lounge and Primas was trying to get me off the ship and my wife was still down there. I repeatedly told him that I had to get my wife and he insisted that I leave the ship. I am sure the look on my face told him that was not an option and I got a bit testy and he had the junior butler walk with me to get my wife. So we went down and got her and was whisked off the ship. That really diminished the whole experience.
