Review summary

MSC messed up with my booking - no wifi or drinks plus package. I was really pissed off. Had to buy both and they had to contact main office, got the drinks package refunded day 2 but the wifi not until day 3 as they had to contact the main office again. Had paper work but they didn't trust it. If this happens to you buy it and wait for the refund in a few days during the cruise after contacting CS on the ship. Make sure you go see CS before the ship leaves Miami. Specialty dining was great - MDR hit or miss ( depends on what you order) buffet was the same food everyday and food was cold ) it was ok. 1600 people on board 20% in there 40s - 70% in there 50s or older - found one group of about 40 people to party with in their 20s - if it was not for them the cruise would have been boring. We end up at the casino bar to party and finally they opened uptown lounge the last 2 nights for us with a DJ. ( this ship has no night club) White party was fun - glow party was fun. Slides and basketball court only only open after 2 pm until about 6pm (so sad ) Main pool really small. They only had 1 person taking drink orders - you had to go to the bar and get your own. I like that 50% of the passengers were from europe, very kool and different. Bar tenders were great, my waiter was great, staff said hi to me all the time when just walking by. Over all I would not sail MSC again but if it was really cheap and I was on a budget I would.

Embarkation

Very slow, it took about 1hour and 30 mins. You get tested again at the port.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining room was hit or miss, it depends on what you order. But the best thing I ate here was a pork skewer with pineapple.(it was really, really good) and the veal was really good. The other dishes were ok - had a few main courses that were good but don't stick out and a few were not that great, I recommend ordering 2 or 3 main entrees a night to try.( don't worry a lot of food gets thrown out every day once they defrost it) and they feed it to the fish. Did not eat in the MDR for breakfest or lunch. Buffet was ok, the ham, turkey, vegetable, potatoes and gravy were cold. They need to serve hot meals. (Pizza was really good but just warm) Breakfest eggs beacon ect was again just warm and the lattes/cappuccino was very good. Over all the MDR was very inconsistent (my waiter was awsome) and the buffet had the same items everyday.

HOLA! Tacos & Cantina

3 out of 5

Tacos were great, really good ! Tried them all.The casidea was good - didn't really care for the tamale or the burrito and passed on the enchiladas.

Kaito Teppanyaki

4 out of 5

Experance was very entertaining (staff was awsome) and it was my birthday, they made me a special deser. the food was good, had the lobster with scallops (under seasoned) the filet mignon over cooked just a bit for $20 more.

Butcher's Cut

5 out of 5

The best meal I had on the ship. Ordered the 14 ounce New York steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sides tasted so good.

Ocean Cay Restaurant

4 out of 5

Great experience - my waiter was very nice, but overworked as he had 4 tables and so he was running around a bit.( main course came a bit slow) Had the carpaccio with lemon. Black cod with capers and the creme brulee with a shot of limoncello. Over all the 2nd best meal on the ship for me.

Venchi 1878 Gelato

2 out of 5

Saw it but did not hang out her. Pool is small. Area is small.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The main pool had a great atmosphere but they should have built it in the center of the ship and not in the back. I spent a lot of time here. Bar service at your deck lounger was almost nonexisten (they had 1guy) So you had to go to the bar and just get your own.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The main shows were hit or miss. They had 2 really great shows in the middle of the cruise but does not live up to other cruise lines that give you a more broadway style show. Had some kids acting up sitting near me and parents not controlling them ( not the adult theater experance you want.) The nightly show in the small venue on deck 7 was really good again a few golds ones and a few just ok.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
My cabin steward was very nice but everytime I wanted to come back to my cabin she was cleaning ( I guess just bad timing) the bar tenders were great but can at times get slow. I had 1 really great bar tender that always took care of me very well - I drank nothing but martinis and a few of them started calling me that (lol) My waiter in the MDR was awsome Now to the bad part MSC did not add my drinks and wifi pacage and it was a nightmare to get it fixed ( took 1 day for the drinks and 2 days for the wifi). I was really pissed off. ( not a great way to start cruuse)

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
My cabin - clean. modern and had all the bathrobes and slippers. Bad part of the cabin - kids and adults ruining or walking very hard in the jungle pool area above my cabin. Don't get a cabin on the 15th deck a lot of pounding from walking can he heard during the daytime and before dinner when getting ready. I should have asked for the 14th deck. Don't like the fact that on deck 5(central park restaurantreMDR and the casino ) you can't walk the entire ship but you can on deck 6,7,8 Main pool should be at the center of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice, clean morden Pounding from deck 16 jungle pool- running and walking hard can he heard throughout the day.

Ship tip

If it is priced you are worried about go MSC but lower your expectations. 50% of the guest will be from overseas(I like that) as with RCL, Carnival and NCL its 90% Americans. Be warned if they mess up your booking in anyway it could take a day or 2 to sort it out as the have to contact the main office onshore. For me they just don't fix mistakes fast enough and food is just ok. Specialty dining was really good but you pay for it. Will I sail MSC again most likely no unless I'm on a tight budget.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
Went to the mayian ruins but spent most of the trip was a bus ride and we only spent about 1hr 30 mins there. Cozmel is a much better port

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Very windy and had 2 rain showers - needs to develop more. Coco kay was so much better.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

3 out of 5
Was planning on going river tubing but missed the port due to a bad hang over (the night before was my birthday) I had been to Jamaica 2 times already.

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5
This became a sea day - government would not allow us to dock in port

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast and simple was off the shop very quickly with 1600 people on board it should be fast.

MSC does make a lot of being mistakes. Coincidently, they always cost you money and you have to fight with them to prove they are wrong. Unfortunately, a lot of people just won't bother fighting with them... On my MSC cruise, I was surprised how young the crowd was. At least as young as any 7 day Carnival ship I've been on.
