Review summary

Had a great time. It was a mellow cruise. It is definitely different than a carnival cruise.

Embarkation

Embarkation was pretty easy. You just kept showing them your passport, vaccination card, and negative antigen test at every station and they take your temperature. They also give you your stateroom key. Once on the ship, they give you a black tracker wristband to wear. Everyone must have one. It’s contact tracing purposes if someone comes down with Covid. They also tell you it will open your stateroom door, and you can make reservations for the shows with it on the screens through out promenade, make purchases too, but mine never worked. Guest service sent me a note that I needed to have my band reprogrammed with my card key, still did not open my door. You must have card in the slot to have lights in your room. Other cards do NOT work, I tried

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I have celiac disease, so I got a letter saying I should have breakfast and lunch at waves restaurant. I did have breakfast there. I always had to tell them I have celiac and the people in the white coats had to always serve me. In the MDR, again I told them I had celiac and the head waiter had to serve me because he would take that nights menu and go to the chef and see what he could make gluten free for me. He would mark things on menu that could be gluten free and I would choose. Food was ok. I’m not a big foodie. As long as there was gluten-free food I could eat I was fine.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
I’m not a trivia person and they did trivia every day. I stayed in the covered pool deck area. The regular pool area had no shade for the loungers. Tables and chairs only in the shade. I felt there wasn’t much to do during the day.

Entertainment

Went to 3 shows. I prefer comedy shows, but they don’t have that. Went to a rock and roll show, classic rock, went to the magic show, which was pretty basic magic stuff - cut the girl in half, make girl disappear, put girl in box and a different girl comes out - and I went to the broadway show, which was songs and dance from different broadway shows. They were all good. Each 40 minutes long. The shows are at either 7pm and 9pm. The 9 pm is for all vaccinated only.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had only 1100 people on board and someone said there were 1200 or more staff. Very attentive. You must have your temp taken everyday. The staff is standing outside of all eating venues to take your temperature and make you wash your hands - buffet, or to sanitize your hands outside of MDR. If you eat 3 meals a day, you will have your temp taken 3 times a day. Walking into a store, you will have a staff member standing outside the door making you sanitize your hands before going in. My room steward was great. Extra towels and a bucket of ice every day. Keep in mind they will lock up minibar on the last full day, that is because you are off the ship by 9am the next day. You must be out of your room by 7:30 and off ship by 9am.

Ship Quality

Pretty ship. The promenade on deck 6 is the main deck. Loved the dome, and the quick dome shows. Clean ship too. Always saw people constantly cleaning. The hallways for the staterooms are a little maze like. My room number was not listed on the number signs, but I found it. The sign started with 11076 and I was 11072 on deck 11. Saw 11074 to the left and kept going left and found my room. Balcony is small.

Cabin / Stateroom

Clean small balcony cabin. Perfect for one person. The closet space is small for 2 people. Solo cruiser here, so it was perfect for me. I was on starboard side so I got a good view of Ocean Cay. The shower has a door, but mine leaked water on the floor. That’s why 4 stars I enjoyed my cabin very much. At night on 2 different nights there was lightning and rolling thunder on the horizon and I sat on my balcony at night with a drink listening and watching Mother Nature’s show! And I saw 5 dolphins too!! That was amazing to watch them jump!! 🐬🐬

Ship tip

Be prepared to have your temperature taken everyday and wear your mask 😷 just have fun!!

Ports of call

I went to Nachi Cocom for the first time and it was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed myself!! Taxi prices have gone up, $19 to get there and $20 to get back. It was worth it, I spent all day there, as it is an all inclusive. The place was not full, so not crowded at all. The drinks were good and if you ordered one and then decided to go in the water, they delivered it to you in the water. Lunch was good too. They accommodated me because of the celiac and instead of fried grouper, they grilled it plain for me with veggies, and I got a fruit plate. All good. Met 2 other solo cruises from other ships,(there were 4 ships in that day) and had a fun time with them. I will definitely be coming back here.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

Beach day at lighthouse beach. Sunset beach, paradise beach, Bimini beach and another beach were all closed. The only beach areas open were lighthouse and south beach and the one special beach for the yacht club members. The water was beautiful to swim in, nice and clear.

Disembarkation

Like I said before, gotta be out of your room by 7:30am, and I was. I took all my own luggage off the ship and was in a taxi going to the airport by 8:05am. Real quick, just walked off.

Great review. 👏🏼👏🏼 I’ll also be cruising solo on this ship soon, so this calmed my nerves. 💕

Yes sounds very different from Carnival. On my Panorama cruise last week, the staff would never ask someone to sanitize hands. You could go all week without washing hands and I think most passengers never sanitized.

Glad you enjoyed it would you do MSc again?

Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed your cruise. We enjoy both CCL and MSC and their differences. Pre-Covid there would be a very large number of international passengers which made it interesting.
