Review summary

The cruise was decent. The facilities dated but maintained well. The gym was spacious and we'll appointed, but oftentimes crowded. The buffet selection was good and plentiful. Our cabin steward was awesome. The front desk personnel were not at all accommodating or friendly. When I suggested to one staff person that she wasn't understanding my concern, she began telling me how she spoke 6 languages and started repeating herself in each one of them. That was amusing be degrading at the same time. I sat there in line for quite some time and my experience was not unusual in the least.

Embarkation

According to all the literature, one had to be fully vaccinated, which we were. While entering the terminal for our voyage, we were asked for a Vivid test. We spoke with several people, all of whom had different answers. Lucky for us, they could give us the test for a mere $60 or we wouldn't be allowed to board the ship. I hate to use the word extortion, but call it what you like.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was good, but the buffet was not well organized, with folks leaping in and out at will and grabbing food with their bare hands.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There were a few good shows in the theater, including done great acrobatics and singers.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
A little kitschy but fun all the same.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was the shining star of our voyage. He was prompt, polite, professional and accommodating. When the surprise $500 per person compulsory tip was added to our bill, I refused it, as one can as a US citizen and paid my folks directly. I would have left half for the people behind the scenes, but the last second Covid test requirement really irked me.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is an older, rather dated vessel, but the staff did a great job keeping it clean and tidy.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a balcony cabin that was comfortable. Everything was kept clean and organized by our fabulous steward.

Ship tip

Keep an eye on the extra expenses and try not to engage the front desk too much. They are not too customer focused

Disembarkation

They demanded a new credit card to pay for the Covid test or they wouldn't let me off the ship. There were many of us with the same issue, but others who got on later were not required to take the test. When I asked for the webpage showing it was required as alleged, they actually went into the back room and printed out a fake copy with the "requirement" pasted on with a different font. It would be humorous if it weren't so stressful for us.
