Review summary

This was not my 1st cruise on the Divina, but it is likely the last. Staff interaction was strained and they were downright rude at times. Lack of cleanliness and crowds in the buffet are a turn off and activities are limited on board. The Ocean Cay island is nice to see from a distance but the on-island experience leaves much to be desired.

Embarkation

Long lines to board even at appointed times. I am a Diamond member and in the past was afforded priority boarding. However, on this trip, the rude staff told me "that doesn't exist" get to the back of the line and wait.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Crowded buffet and limited seating. Poor selections on this trip. I experienced better selections on previous trips. Tables were always dirty and it appeared staff had trouble keeping up. Possibly understaffed? Drink package even for the non-alcoholic package is very expensive and definitely helps MSC live up to it's moniker "MUST SPEND CASH"

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Game room is small. 4D Cinema has seats that don't work and the bowling in the sports bar did not work. Lost $8.00

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I've experienced better shows on the MSC Divina but the Adele and the ABBA Show were ok. Golden Jazz Club is a horrible choice foe Karaoke. Seating is limited and visibility is poor from most locations. The Black/White club is a better choice. Very limited options for entertainment beyond the show, karaoke, musicians in the various venues, bingo and a couple dance classes. On previous MSC cruises there was wine making, crafts and a lot more varied trivia games. this seemed like a scaled down version of everything.

Children's Programs

no children this trip

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
I can honestly say that I had very few positive interactions with staff on this trip. Most seemed annoyed when asked questions, rude in their responses and didn't seem to like their jobs or interacting with guests very much. The clincher for me was dinner on day 2. Arrived at the Black Crab at 6:15pm. Was told at the door that we was supposed to be there at 6pm. Understood. Was then told we couldn't sit at assigned table because we were late and our table had been given to someone else. Still ok and understood. After we were seated at the absolute worse table in the restaurant, we were approached by another staff member (Sanjay I think) who told us the same thing yet again. When I said "I got it...We will be here at 6 tomorrow to stand in the long line" he kept repeating the same thing over and over. I'm not an idiot or a child, but felt we were treated that way. Service was below par and it appeared that every night for the remainder of the cruise we were treated badly, served last and slowly and had to endure the rude treatment from many of the staff.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Generally clean ship overall. The buffet crew seemed to have trouble keeping up with the crowds and keeping the tables cleaned.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin Steward did a good job of making the bed and cleaning the room. Balcony was a nice.

Ship tip

I have sailed MSC Ships multiple times and usually in the Yacht Club. Since we were traveling with our entire family and some guests, opted not to choose yacht club this time. This is my 5th MSC Divina trip. I had high expectations but was let down on this trip. I would definitely set expectations low and you won't be disappointed.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

3 out of 5
Slow boarding at embarkation. Chaotic disembarkation. Did the Everglades excursion. Was ok.

Nassau, Bahamas

Chose to walk around and visit the sites. Visited the 3 Museums, did some shopping and had lunch. Overall a good day. Managed to stay out of the crowds since 3 ships were in Port at the same time.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

1 out of 5
I've been on other MSC cruises that stopped here. However, on this trip I felt is was a colossal waste of time, space and energy. It is likely ideal for beach lovers but I found the entire experience annoying and after an hour of standing in food lines, searching for a shaded place to sit and really not being able to relax, just went back to the ship. I will not take another MSC cruise that include this place in the itinerary.

Disembarkation

Slow. Had people in line in front of me that had not settled their bills so made it even worse because of the extra time spent getting their affairs straightened out. NOTE: You will not leave that ship if you owe MSC any money. (MSC=MUST SPEND CASH)
