Review summary
We are loyal to royal but what we experienced with our Nov ‘21 cruise and now a Dec ‘21 cruise on the Mariner is not cutting it. The food quality has degraded and it’s obvious some changes has been made somewhere. Entertainment is nonexistent! Your given food that isn’t good and trivia is passed off as the daily entertainment. I don’t understand how Royal Caribbean can say a belly flop competition, The Quest game show, or most other staple R.C entertainment offerings can not be organized at this time due to public health BUT they can fill a lounge area with as many people that can squeeze into the space for a game of trivia or Bingo and consider that safe. If these was solely my thoughts then I would keep them to myself. But when other passengers speak out with the exact thoughts we are having in general conversation, then I feel what we are experiencing is legitimate and should be expressed to others. We love Royal Caribbean but at this time we do not feel they are delivering on the cruise vacations they are selling with their marketing.Embarkation
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
Windjammer Café
After a cruise in Nov ‘21 on the Allure and now a Cruise in Dec ‘21 on the Mariner it is in our opinion the food quality is not a ship to ship issue, 2 ships back to back has provided food that really isn’t good. We spoke with many other passengers who are loyal to Royal Caribbean with FAR more sailings than us who echoed the same feelings, the food quality has degraded drastically. Although we all was merely assuming and can’t say this with accuracy, we feel like Royal Caribbean has changed to different suppliers and distributors recently as whatever changes that have occurred is very noticeable across several ships.
Main Dining Room
Service in the main dinning was amazing. These crew members are extremely dedicated to giving the best service possible. The menu quality is of no fault of theirs. On the very first night of our cruise both the server and his assistant informed us there had been complaints on the previous cruise and to please let them know if we wasn’t happy with our menu selections so they could bring other options. We never sent anything back because we didn’t want the hassle of waiting for other options. Everything was edible but many items was simply not good.
Johnny Rockets
We have never had a bad experience at Johnny Rockets on any ship in the fleet, the JR aboard Mariner OTS also provided great service and excellent burgers. We had lunch here several times due to the quality of food for lunch in the Windjammer not being so good.

Ship tip
Wait until the covid restrictions are over. This was truly a boring Royal Caribbean cruise! That is no exaggeration! We was required to be masked at all times unless eating/drinking or outside. There was basically no entertainment! Trivia was the highlight ALL day EVERY day with the occasional game of Bingo. If you have kids that are unvaccinated, your cruise will consist of being shut out of many of the ships spaces being that it’s “vaccinated only areas”. We spoke with several parents who was extremely disappointed in the lack of things they was able to do or places they was able to go on board. Although I don’t have kids, I absolutely could see the parents point of views.
