Review summary

Whatever you do do not book your trip through cruise.com they are Crooks, Liars and thieves. I reserve the trip almost a year ago make reservations with friends we had balcony rooms beside each other. I purchased a trip through cruise.com for 2 with the drink package and gratuities paid $1,994. that also included an insurance package that I was told to get in case I needed to cancel my vacation and get reimbursed-124 is what it was going to cost for the insurance package. I called cruise.com 5 days before setting sail to let them know that my guests would not be able to go. I asked would there be any type of kickback since the whole package was buy one get the second 50% off and they told me I would only get $84 back. so I asked how much would I lose out if I just canceled trip I was told a hundred and sixty bucks I said okay. this company is nothing but liars and lies. come to find out they're going to keep all my money they charged me $100 cancellation fee so now I'm at $2,100 not going on a trip not getting any money back so I immediately called them back up and said what the hell is going on they said you canceled your trip and there's no refund I told them but I had the insurance they gave me the number to call the third party Insurance Company I called the insurance company they said the insurance was only good in case something happened while I was on the ship not insurance for cancellation even though it's considered as cancellation insurance at least this is what a travel agent that I was dealing with told me. Needless to say I spent 10 hours and the next 4 days trying to get this straight I believe in donating money but not giving it away to corporate greed. finally I ended up talking to a supervisor who told me that she did an investigation listen to all the phone conversations and told me that I was in the right and that they were in the wrong and how many times that they were sorry they got me back on the ship in a claustrophobic room not a balcony too cheap to even try to give me an upgrade even though they screwed up. Once again lies the supervisor told me that I would be reimbursed the difference for the room. No such luck. so once I got on the ship let me remind you I've already paid for two drink packages and had to pay for nother drink package $290 when I got on the ship so that's three drink packages for one person. and then I get another bogus charge from Royal Caribbean for an additional $29 no explanation what this is for. So now I'm at $2,457.52 for a single person going on a 3-night trip and in a cramp interior room.To top it off no sooner I put my bags in my room and meet my friends by the pool deck slipped up on some water and broke my toe with a non-working phone for room service. Horrible experience something I never wish to go through or experience again, first time going on a cruise and probably would never go on another one because of this experience thanks cruise.com

Wow that is a lot of money for a 4 night cruise! We booked through Cheap Cruises and feel we got a great price.

It does sound like most of your issues were with the booking company and not RCCL yet you dinged the ship.

Sorry you had a bad experience. This seems to be a common problem when people book with another person that decides not to go for some reason. Many of the issues you mentioned are based on the cruise line policies for cancellations / changes, are common to most cruise lines and are not related to the booking agent / site. There are numerous types of travel policies and it sounds like the one you had did not cover “cancel for any reason” or if only one party cancelled. This is a real world example why it is always important to do research on all the terms and conditions when booking a cruise and choosing a travel policy.

Royal would have reimbursed anything you bought for people who didn't show up, like drink packages etc as well as port fees and taxes which are about $80 pp on a 3 night cruise. Always read the terms of the insurance contract because there are so many different types.
