Review summary

Very disappointing thus cancelled an April, 2024 transatlantic cruise Miami to Barcelona on Oceania Marina. Will likely not patronize Oceania in the future after 6 cruises.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining room was average, buffets were average but service was terrible, , specialty dining was excellent when available

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not useful to us

Entertainment

No interest thus didn't attend

Children's Programs

We arent children and there were few children on the ship

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Never saw our cabin attendant. Shore excursion staff totally disorganized at first. Inadequate staffing for buffet. Ships personnel generally appeared overworked, somewhat surely and didn't seem to care very much about the passengers..

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Ships layout and design is unchanged from previous cruises and fine. Common areas

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Air-conditioning was out when we embarked. Took 3 days to get running properly then still either too warm or cold. On deck 7 only one washing machine working, soap dispenser intermittent. Personal touches missing: no chocolate at night, had to ask for ice every day. Never saw cabin steward.

Ship tip

Do not book on Marina until it is refurbished, the crew augmented and retrained. The cost of the cruise is much greater than the value received. Would no longer rank Oceania as a "luxury" cruise line.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5

Monte Carlo, Monaco

We didn't go to Monte Carlo, ship went instead to Cannes and tender disembarkation was a fiasco plus Cannes isn't worth the visit.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5

Amalfi/Positano, Italy

5 out of 5
We did a private tour rather than an Oceania excursion and it was wonderful.

Messina, Sicily

1 out of 5
Basically a tour of an industrial city, only thing worthwhile was the clock which we could have walked to from the ship. Wasted money.

Valletta, Malta

3 out of 5
Botanical garden closed so no visit to it. Oceania should be able to figure this out beforehand. Rest of the tour rushed and just shopping. No sites of interest visited.

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

5 out of 5
3D tour of Olympia worth every cent. Much better than our prior visit to Olympia because able to see what it was in its day.

Corfu, Greece

4 out of 5

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
Our third visit so did not need or take a tour. Interesting place to visit but no tour needed. Private tour recommended for first time visitors.

Koper, Slovenia

5 out of 5
Tour guide was excellent, very informative.

TRIESTE (VENICE), ITALY

3 out of 5
Been there before so did not take a tour. Would recommend a private tour for first time visitors.

Why would the ship’s layout be changed!

Nice itinerary! Appreciate your detailed feedback. Sorry you were disappointed. Many cruise lines no longer have chocolates.🧐

Did you know in advance you were going to Cannes and not Monte Carlo? I absolutely love Monaco but tendering in Cannes followed by a 2 hour bus journey each way dampens the experience! From Messina you have options to go to the beautiful Taormina, or even Mount Etna.
