Review summary

We used this cruise to relax and recover as much as possible. We had experienced the passing of my favorite aunt not long before, so I was still a little depressed and still processing that loss. I never once thought about cancelling the cruise because my aunt loved cruising and would have been disappointed in us if we cancelled! We took long naps and enjoyed the ship as much as possible. It was a wonderful escape just when we needed it.

Embarkation was quick and straightforward.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food in the MDR was great with the exception of what was supposed to be a filet steak but was unrecognizable and uncuttable! I didn't complain because I had enough to eat without it, but I'm sure they would have gladly replaced it. We love Emeril's! Everything we had there was excellent! And those beignets! Oh my! The food at Cucina was delicious at lunch time--we didn't make it there for dinner. The food at ChiBang! was very good at lunch and excellent at dinner. Shaq's Big Chicken was great for lunch, but the breakfast biscuit was terrible! I didn't want to stand in line again to get a replacement. The chicken was very good! Piazza Panini was excellent. We didn't eat at the Lido Marketplace too many times, but it was fine when we did. My husband ate at Guy's Pig and Anchor for dinner one night and enjoyed it. Portions every place we ate were more than enough. I consider it a successful dining experience on the Mardi Gras!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We didn't actually participate in any activities but they all looked fun.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We didn't get to any of the big shows, but we very much enjoyed the strings trio and Guitar Sounds with Kev! Great performers at smaller venues.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We enjoyed great service the entire cruise! It was a great surprise to get to be served by one of our favorite servers we had met on the Legend last year!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
There were obvious signs of wear and tear n the public areas, but Mardi Gras is scheduled for dry dock next year, so I'm sure she will be brought back to her original glory then! No complaints cleanliness wise.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was unusual. It is a premium interior--it looks just like a balcony cabin, but with no balcony! It was very comfortable and roomy and had more storage than we needed! It was very clean.

Ship tip

Not all venues are open for lunch on port days, so make sure you visit the ones you don't want to miss on sea days.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We didn't leave the port area because there is so much to see and do right in the port. My health isn't what it once was, so I tend to shy away from excursions. But the heat and humidity were almost unbearable for me! It took me quite a while to recover after getting back on the ship.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
The port area here is so much fun, with so much to see and do. We didn't book an excursion. The heat and humidity were stifling! I was depleted by the time we covered the port area. I had to find a place to sit and rest before heading back to the ship. We always take water, so I wasn't dehydrated--it was just that hot!

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras Did not visit port

Since we had been here before, we opted to stay on the ship due to the high heat and humidity, which I don't handle very well.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick process once we got our luggage.
