Not a bad cruise, no "wow" which is ok too. Won't do this boat again, the layout is terrible and the service was not that great either and we are pretty easy-going folks. I almost feel like they were trying to mimic the Oasis? Who knows but next up, The Horizon, which we have been on before and really liked. Happy cruising everyone!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Not too bad - Port Canaveral pretty easy to get on board.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Not bad - main dining was terrible, Chibangs and Pig and achor very good. No bacon at buffet just about every morning.. food was meh over all
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Thermal Spas were great! Pool was ok but people are getting deck chairs very early now and not using them... at least more than normal on this boat.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The entertainment on this ship really good as the musicians and stage performers were next level.
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
Never met the room steward and he skipped cleaning our room a few of the days. I will say there was a lot of miserable staff but we didn't let that get us down. First time in over 20 cruises we didn't see any ship staff - not an officer in sight.
Ship Quality

This ship is horribly laid out. I think there are parts of the ship we didn’t even see. While I get what they were trying to do, with the whole “neighborhoods” thing, the lack being able to get anywhere near the water was terrible. Even our balcony looked down into another balcony. The sounds blended on entertainment decks (6/7/8) so you could hear things coming from everywhere during performances. Overall, we tried the boat, won't do it again but you should do it to see if it’s what you like as it’s not like other Carnival ships for sure.
Ask for a banana split in the main dining room - it's not on the menu but they will make it for you... and it will probably be the best thing you eat in there as well.
The wife and I traveled the Mari Gras Sep 2021. We booked the Havana room. It was such an amazing cruise. Spectacular ship! The staff were epic. Next cruise is on the splendor heading to Alaska.
We're 50 plus days from our cruise on the Mardi Gras. It's our 43rd anniversary, I know this ship is not for everyone. We never let, crew, passengers our a ship interfere with our vacation. As someone mentioned before a day on a cruise is better than a day at work. Happy sailing everyone, Live, Love and Laugh 😃
Appreciate your feedback. We have talked with several people that have sailed on the Mardi Gras. It’s either wonderful or not ever again. Bigger isn’t always better.
I haven’t heard too many bad reviews on Mardi Gras. Most have been great. Sorry you didn’t like. And BTW, you can get a banana split on any Carnival ship in the MDR . Just ask.
Thank you for sharing your honest review. I am sailing next week on the MG and it is my first time with Carnival. I’ve done RC and MSC previously. The mixed reviews are making me nervous but plan to make the best of it for our 25th anniversary!
