Review summary

For our first Christmas cruise we expected a more Christmas vibe. They focused more on Mardi Gras than Xmas. Santa did not appear until at least 6pm Christmas Day. Seriously?! It was disappointing.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Was very chaotic and crowded. Not good way to do things during a pandemic.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was ok. We’ve liked Carnivals food over the other two cruise lines we’ve been on in the past but this time they were just average with the others. Buffet didn’t have as many choices as I would have thought. Service was pretty lack luster compared to other cruises we’ve been on.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The main attraction, the roller coaster kept breaking down. Went on it twice it broke down both times.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainment was pretty amateur. They over used the same singers and dancers too. The same people performed every different show. It got kinda boring hearing the same singers for every main show.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff were not as friendly as we are used too but the pandemic has worn on all of us so I get it.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
For it being Carnivals newest ship I expected more. Looked like they bought all the furniture at ikea. Nothing wrong with ikea. Just expected better. Thought the center stage area seating had too many obstructed views and they underused the space.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved the room and it’s location. Bathroom is a bit too tiny though.

Ship tip

Show up early to center stage shows to get good seats.

Ports of call

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
The worst debarkation process ever! If we didn’t ignore the zone order and just get off we would have missed our flight. And the bus transfer area was a complete chaotic mess.

Don’t feel sorry for us. We enjoy cruising and we went on a Christmas cruise on carnivals newest ship during a pandemic. We are very fortunate to have done this. Reviews are meant to be an honest opinion of our experience. That’s what I gave. If everyone wanted me to just say nice things about our cruise that would not be a very helpful review of what you may expect to experience. We enjoyed our cruise. We’ve just experienced better from carnival in the past. Thanks!

I’ve never been on a Christmas cruise but from what I’ve seen of pictures, the ships don’t go all out on decorations. I would say you’re lucky that they had Santa there!!
