7 Night Perfect Day Bahamas (New Orleans Roundtrip)
Sail date: March 07, 2020
Ship:
Majesty of the Seas
Cabin type: Inside
Cabin number: 4013
Traveled as: Family (older children)
Reviewed: 4 years ago
Review summary
It was just inexcuseable to miss CoCo Cay. If the ship is too small or underpowered, it should be reassigned to a cruise destination it can handle! Majesty lacks the amenities for a long cruise anyway. Dont book this ship... choose a newer one!
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation was delayed due to "ship delayed 2 hours getting to port" However, crew members later stated the ship ported on time and alluded to other issues. So embarking passengers were put in a large room and getting onto the ship was slow.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food on the Majesty, be it Starlight, Windjammer, Sorrento's or Compass Deli, was very good and service was great! Pool bars had the best drink service. For some reason, cocktails in the Viking Lounge were not as good as other bars... especially frozen drinks had a very bitter taste. Starlight had two formal nights and one lobster night.
Viking Crown Lounge
3 out of 5
Cocktails in this lounge had a bitter taste on multiple nights.
Pool Bar
4 out of 5
The Pool Bar is the best bar to get cocktails from. The staff could be more personable though.
Main Dining Room

Food is very good and the waitstaff were fantastic!
Compass Deli

Very good! We lunched here instead of Windjammer a few days. Also great for late snacks!
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
My complaint is that many activities, especially sports related and kid-friendly, either did not happen at all or did not happen as scheduled. My 18, 15 and 13 year old tried and tried to play pickleball but it was never set up when the cruise itenerary app said it would be. Likewise, they reported to Origami and were told its not happening now when the app said it was supposed to be. The Majesty has a very small pool area and only four hot tubs. Almost constantly, there were as many as twenty, yes twenty, kids aged less than 12 years old swimming, not sitting, in the hot tubs! No parents present. The clearly written rules limited two of the hot tubs to eight guests and the two smaller hot tubs to five. The rules recommended not for young children, recommended frequent breaks to use restroom... none of this was enforced! When adults complained to the lifeguards, they were apologetic but would not do much. If they did ask some kids to leave the hot tubs, they came right back as soon as the lifeguard went away. Again, parents not accompanying children in the hot tubs or even watching them! Kids were horseplaying and going underwater and trampling each other! Note that there is NO adults only pools, hot tubs or spaces on the Majesty.
Whirlpools
1 out of 5
Lifeguards would not or could not control children from mobbing the hot tubs and horseplaying with no parents around at all! Written rules were not enforced.
Sports Court
2 out of 5
Events were not held as scheduled. My kids were never able to play pickleball even when it was scheduled... they just didnt have it.
Rock Climbing Wall
3 out of 5
One of my kids is a wall-climber but was disappointed at the short amount of time it is open each day.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The entertainment was quite good! The ship singers, dancers and musicians were great. The comedians were funny. The magician put on a good show. The Adele impersonator was amazing and that was by far the best show!
Children's Programs
2 out of 5
My 15 and 13 year old wouldnt go back to the teen lounge after the first day. They said it was boring and nothing to do.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Starlight dining service was great! Kewanna was our assistant waiter who had to take over head waiter duties halfway through cruise because our head waiter, Natasha, had to accompany a sick passenger off the ship at Nassau who couldnt remain on board. Kewanna did a great job! Bartenders did a good job although not very outgoing or conversational. Our room steward appeared to be nice but he never formally introduced himself to us ever during the cruise. He did a good job but never asked us if we had any complaints, concerns or whatnot. Other than Kewanna in the Starlight, crew members on the Majesty just werent as personable as any of the other three cruises I have been on.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship is small and very worn. It is reasonably clean. It is not layed out as well as modern ships. there were hand sanitizing stations literally everywhere. Not enough soft drink stations.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
We had two cabins, one for us and one for the 18, 15 and 13 year olds. The cabins are the smallest I have seen on my four cruises. They were kept clean by the steward. Everything worked as should. The kids complained their cabin was too hot and it was fixed promptly.
Ship tip
Do not book this ship for more than a three-day short excursion. The ship has one-fifth the power of the next smallest RC ship and no modern computerized navigation/docking assist. The captain could not dock at CoCo Cay when another RC ship had just docked before us. The waves were not big and it was a fairly typical wind day for the season. But captain said due to the small power and small size of the ship, and no computerized docking assitance, he could not dock. Captain at a meeting that day admitted that the ship was better suited for short excursions not requiring manual docking. He said the "higher ups" were informed but haven't done anything.
We missed this port on our scheduled day... captain couldnt dock the ship. However the port was made up on Thursday after captain also failed to dock at CoCo Cay. Key West was fun and entertaining but we missed our shore excursion that had been scheduled for the intended day.
Nassau is not much more than a shopping experience. Our shore excursion to Pearl Island for beaching was cancelled but we were able to get a Blue Lagoon beach excursion to substitute. That excursion did not allow enough time to really relax.
Captain could not dock and cancelled CoCo Cay. Another RC ship just docked before us and captain blamed the Majesty's size, power and equipment... of course, none of those issues are forewarned to customers when they are booking the ship! CoCo Cay was to be the highlight of the whole cruse. It was heavily advertised and propped up by the website and the cruise director. Captain made three feeble attempts to dock and then pulled away and gave up! We watched the whole thing from the deck. The weather conditions were typical and it is just inexcuseable. Of course, no compensation was provided - not even a special discount for a future cruise! The only "compensation" was the captain went back to Key West which he had also failed to dock at two days prior. I think the only reason the Majesty docks well at Nassau and NOLA is due to the docks being in an inlet and river respectively and both have tugboat assist. The Majesty needs to be reassigned to a simple three-day excursion to Nassau only.
Disembarkation was easy since we took all our bags ourselves and the terminal was empty because the next cruise was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
You are 100% correct. RC are thieves and rarely dock this tug boat at CoCo Cay. They said the dock would fix everything and now you have confirmed that RC deliberately avoids docking at CoCoCay and offers nothing in return knowing they won’t be able to dock. Wow. They are thieves.
