5 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)
Sail date: July 17, 2019
Ship:
Majesty of the Seas
Cabin type: Oceanview
Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Reviewed: 5 years ago
Review summary
Don't believe any negative reviews of this this ship. She is a grand older, nicely updated, well-maintained ship with all of what you'd expect from a Royal Caribbean cruise. The passengers were fun and the cruise staff were actively engaged with the fun. Cruises on this ship are nicely priced without sacrificing any of what you'd experience on newer and larger ships. Don't overlook this opportunity to experience a great cruise at a nice price.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Customers were divided by cabin numbers into two groups for check in. Check in is usually sectioned by Crown & Anchor status. The wait time was greater than I'm accustomed to but was handled efficiently.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food and drink choices and dining options are not what you'd see on the larger and newer Royal ships. The main dining room food is average and the buffet quality is adequate with limited choices. If you're looking for a fine dining experience this is not the ship for you.
Sorrentos Pizza
4 out of 5
Just pizza at Sorrentos on this ship. Larger Royal ships have other food items throughout the day at this venue.
Viking Crown Lounge
5 out of 5
This lounge doubles as the Diamond Club on the Majesty of the Seas. Great views.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
The pool entertainment and Cruise Staff pool activities were outstanding on this cruise. Sea days at the pool were lots of fun.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Sailed on many Royal Caribbean ships and the friendliness of staff and crew is consistently exceptional from ship to ship.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It's been twenty years since I last sailed on this ship. I read lots of recent reviews about Majesty prior to booking this trip. Some of these reviews were very critical of this aging ship and included pictures of some worn and tattered finishes. I consider myself to be very observant and critical of maintenance issues on ships that I sail. I can say conclusively that I was very impresses at how well preserved, updated and well maintained I found Majesty of the Seas to be.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable and clean. My only complaint is that the bed linens had an odor that may be due to inadequate laundering or failing to dry immediately after the laundering. I've experienced this situation on three Royal Caribbean ships in the past few months and have provided feedback to the cruise line home offices. No response to my feedback.
Ship tip
Don't let the age of this ship be a concern. Majesty has a lot of older ship charm and is very well managed and maintained. The cruises on this ship are priced very well and the passengers seemed to be having a great time.
Great beaches, restaurants and shopping. Had lunch at Coconuts Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale Beach prior to boarding the ship. Pier Sixty-Six is a great cruise port hotel with some interesting history.
I used Resort for a Day website to book a day pass at the Iberostar resort. $78.00 PP included use of beach and pool facilities (towel provided) along with a spectacular buffet lunch and unlimited drinks at all of the bars (pool bar is nice).
Went on this ship in February and had a great time. Ive cruised lots and this was wifes first cruise. She had a blast on it. The interior cabins are small as i looked in 1 while maids were cleaning but i always get a balcony
