Review summary

Having been on 10+ cruises before and many of those with RC, this one left me wondering if I'd ever sail again with them. Missing was the time in which proper attire at dinner was expected. The food was far less than acceptable. The bed and bath linens were old and graying......in need of immediate replacement. The atmosphere on this ship was less than excitable and felt more like we were just "there." When you did hear a "band" playing, it was in the most inconvenient of all places...right above the photo selection area and made it VERY difficult to understand and communicate with the desk clerk. This cruise just felt like it was an old ship, with a tired staff, and one in which needed to be put out to sea...literally.

Embarkation

Very quick and convenient. As a Gold member, we literally walked into the embarkation area, presented our documents and were on the ship in less than 15 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The windjammer cafe left us with a less than acceptable taste in our mouths. The food was horrible and I have previously cruised on 10+ ships who have had excellent presentations, quality and quantity. This one was not even worth the trip up the stairs or the elevator if you could get it. It stays closed far too often, the food was not as themed as it should have been....overall, just horrible. Drinks on the ship were ok, but I found that the beer selection was poor and lacked greatly in satisfying my unlimited drink package.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We were able to see one show that was very good and this was a comic action show. Well worth the time. However, the one show we would liked to have seen started at 7:30pm....not enough time to eat dinner and make it out on time or if you had a later dinner and for some ungodly reason decided to eat at the Windjammer......maybe you could have seen it.

Children's Programs

Selection and timing seemed weak at best.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I will give our main dining room waiter Arnel and Mario the highest compliments that can be received. While they were outstanding in their attentive ways and nightly suggestions, they dealt with our 6yr old picky granddaughter and made sure she was completely satisfied with her nightly ritual of spaghetti and soup. They remembered our preferences and were always spot on with refills and such.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
While most all public areas were clean, we did experience on our deck one evening a highly pungent sewer smell. This was not acceptable.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Very dirty....linens were soiled and grey. I had one hand towel in the bathroom that had a makeup stain on it and it lay there the entire cruise. The bath/shower stalls not cleaned daily and had trash in it that even my 10 yr old grandson took notice of. Smallest room I've ever been in and not comfortable at all.

Ship tip

It's ok for the money and a quick trip if you live in the area and want a cheap getaway, but, throw in the drinks and the nuisance of Nassau..... I'd rather go fishing.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

Very annoying and mostly so in the areas closet to the ship. People please, just let us get off and look around before you start hitting us up for hair braiding, taxis, buying contraband in a backpack.....

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

5 out of 5
Outstanding Cabana bed and is highly recommended that if you can do this at all and just want relaxation, make this a priority. Snorkeling in this area is ok for kids and the area was away from the main buzz of people and activities. The complimentary shuttle from the dock was really nice.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Not acceptable....took us two hrs after we arrived to get off the ship. Long lines, cruise staff going around calling luggage tag numbers.... I don't understand why some were allowed to carry their luggage off the ship and were allowed to leave first. This was never mentioned to us until we had already received our disembarkation tags....#12 of 15. The lines had so many people in them that still had large suitcases and held up the rest of us just trying to move along in the lines. Also, people why take your luggage out of your room to go eat breakfast in the main dining room.....All you're doing is taking up space and making it more difficult for others to move along in a more timely manner.

It is going into dry dock in January so they can fix her up!!! She is an old and tired ship but she is still great!!

On 3-4 night cruises, people pack lightly and are less formal. You see a big difference in attire on 7 nights and longer. No reason for the cabin not to be picked up regularly.

Every ship I've been on has offered self assist, which means you carry off your bags before they start calling for those who checked their luggage the night before. And every cruiseline has cut back on what constitutes dinner attire.
