Review summary
I have been on 6 cruises including this one. One Disney and the rest on RCCL. My first cruise was in 1985 on RCCL's The Song of America.
I booked this cruise only a month ahead as a quick get away. Rate was so good they picked the cabin. Was interior on deck 5 which was fine. I always like the interior cabins. We sailed from Port Canaveral which was great. There cannot be an easier port to get into and out of. The RCCL new terminal is fantastic. You drive into the bottom level of a new parking garage where a porter takes your bags then drive up to park. The garage is connected directly to the large terminal where you board the ship. Even if there was heavy rain you would never get wet. And your car is protected while you are gone. All with check in was super fast. I arrived around noon.
Upon boarding The Majesty of the Seas I went to the buffet lunch which was great. Walked around for a while and looked over the ship as I had last sailed on it in 2010. Nicely maintained and updated. They have added Johnny rockets hamburgers, a Sorrento's Pizza and Compass Deli on the upper deck above the Windjammer buffet area. I only ate in the dining room one night and the food was great. Usual cruise type menu but good, no issues with the temp or flavor. Staff was nice and personable. Other meals I ate in the Windjammer. Yes it was pretty standard fare but again it was very tasty and a good variety. Every meal there was some sort of low cal type chicken dish and vegetables for anyone trying to watch what they ate, along with a couple sugar free dessert selections. also every night was ice cream and sherbet selections hand scooped for you, carved meats, etc. The dining area is high and in the front of the ship with great views. During the days the Compass Deli has nice deli style sandwiches, salad bar and hot soups with different bread for afternoon snacking. The Sorrento's Pizza is open until 3 am also. On the pool deck is a soft serve ice cream machine that is always good.
Entertainment was good with variety of shows and comedians, etc. The reggae type band on the pool deck was always good and enjoyed their jobs and added to the positive vide. Large screen tv had variety of sports and some recent movies, suitable for families. Viking Crown lounge, a classic, was a nice interlude with spectacular views.
If you are looking for a classic cruise on a classic ship that is definitely not showing her age, this is the one for you.
