Review summary

First I will say that I was truly excited to get started cruising. I have been looking forward to this cruise for a long time. I booked it well in advance. When I was notified that I could confirm my room and excursions I did that right away. I purchased the parasailing which was really fun. I also purchased the Soda beverage package for my wife and I for $22 each. The entertainment on the ship was awesome.

If that was all I had to say it would have been 5 stars.....but

When I boarded the ship there were dozens of people trying to sell the beverage packages. There are 4 tiers. The one we had purchased online was the cheapest. We must have been asked at least 10 times if we wanted a package or when I said I already had one if I wanted to upgrade. Finally, one person said my package did not include latte's. That is pretty much all my wife drinks so finally I upgraded to the top tier package for $67 for my wife only since I was advised that one was for the lattes and cappuccinos. Since that package also included alcohol she had a few Margaritas thinking that it was all included in the package and why not.

The last day of the cruise we got a bill for our stay which included $268 for the beverage package upgrade. Apparently, if you buy the upgrade on the ship you get charged $67 every day of the cruise. Needless to say I was shocked and went to guest services to complain. It then became obvious that this is the plan all along. They were unwilling to do anything about it. I offered to just pay for the Margaritas and Latte's and just go back to the $22 package which I already bought but no dice. This is when I found out that buying the package online is only a one-time charge and not everyday like the one bought on the ship. Because of this I will not cruise any ship from this company ever again. I feel completely scammed and to me it is obvious that it is on purpose.

Word to the wise!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Food was excellent on the day we boarded. The daily buffet then steadily declined until by the last day I skipped breakfast and just left the ship to get breakfast in Miami.

Service and Staff

My low rating is directed at the Guest Services and those who pushed the drink upgrade when I boarded the ship. They knew they were scamming me and it was on purpose.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is older....build in 1992. Additionally we had to sign a form stating that a previous guest had Legionnaire's Disease aboard the ship. They said everything was scrubbed and cleaned and there was no danger but it's another issue with an older ship.

Ship tip

If there is anything to take away from this experience I would say read every document before buying anything.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Most people in Miami seemed to charge for everything extra. There are no freebies. We arrived early at our hotel and were charged $50 to check in early. We were again charged $50 for the breakfast which I believed was complimentary. It was not.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

If you want a Bahamas T-shirt you should buy it here. There is a greater selection than on Nassau. Also, the picture frames had embedded shells which I could not find on Nassau either.

Nassau, Bahamas

The city is old. It reminds me of downtown Las Vegas. There are lots of abandoned buildings which could and should be renovated.

The cruise line will nickel and dime you just about everything. I notice they pushing you to buy drink package, but under the price it will stated per day/person. Even drink, bottle water, chip in your room are all extra! If you not careful and prepare ahead of time you will fall in their "trap". We didn't plan to spend extra $$, but sometime you just have to spend a little and enjoy the trip.

You didn't do your homework. I buy my packages online and it clearly states per day
