Review summary

Had very high expectations given the reputation that I was informed HAL had. Unfortunately was disappointed. The boat was older and much smaller than others I have been on which may be why the grandiose of the trip was lost but in general we made the most of it and still had a good time. Definitely beautiful scenery to be seen and history to take in at the different ports.

Embarkation

Pretty quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining room options seemed impressive when reading the menu, but what we were served sometimes was not what was expected or was disappointing. Breakfast was very repetitive. Especially for in-room service we were served warm and/or spoiled milk MULTIPLE times on different days/nights. Just very disheartening.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Activities were okay in comparison to other cruises I've been on. Didn't think the talent was very professional... the same activities constantly repeated themselves the entire week. Towards the end of the cruise we just stopped attending. Although I REALLY loved that they did a 5K fundraiser for cancer research on the ship.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
As stated earlier, the talent was not very professional or super exciting/entertaining.

Children's Programs

Did not have any children in our group.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Dining wait staff and cooks were PHENOMENAL. Pleasant, attentive and hardworking. Did not like their managerial staff however. Their manner and demeanor was the exact opposite.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Definitely a smaller and older ship. Seems pretty run down though they were trying to paint and repair/make improvements. However, our area of the ship closest to the elevators smelled like sewage EVERY day...

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Size and comfort was decent. Cleanliness was usually up to par except our bedding would have yellow stains on them sometimes.

Ship tip

Maybe my expectations for HAL were too high going into this trip so I ended up disappointed.

Ports of call

Montreal, Quebec

4 out of 5
Did not do much at this port except embark.

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
GORGEOUS city with so much rich history. Favorite port for sure.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

5 out of 5
Another city that parts were frozen in time which I loved (being a history buff). Beautiful sights as well

Sydney, Nova Scotia

3 out of 5
Much smaller of a town. Not much to do.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

3 out of 5
Wish they had kept more of their abundant history. It's now a typical growing development city.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
Acadia Park is BREATHTAKING! Such a beautiful place with quaint harbor life. Love it!

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
SOOOO much to do or see no matter your purpose for a trip. Wish we had more time to explore!!

Disembarkation
