Review summary

We had a delightful time on our cruise to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas. The food was plentiful and tasty, and the service was great. We met many nice people and crew members.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were met at the embarkation point and our luggage was immediately taken care of. We then drove a short distance to the parking garage and found a space close to the garage entrance. It was a short walk to the ship entrance and we were able to board the ship immediately.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate dinner in the Main Dining Room on Deck 3 four of our five evenings on the ship. The menu selections were excellent and the dinners and desserts were well prepared and tasty. The wait staff was superb and is discussed in the service and staff section below. We also dined in Johnny Rockets and Windjammer. The food was great! The Windjammer buffet was very well run and offered many choices for all the meals being served. As with the Main Dining Room, the wait staff was excellent.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We enjoyed walking around the ship and were able to find lounge areas that were quiet where we could talk, read and eat ice cream. We were impressed by the variety of activities provided to the passengers. There was clearly something for everyone.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the DJ's and musical performers on the Promenade and on the outdoor stages, although at times they were a bit too loud. The disco event Tuesday evening on the Promenade was great and brought back memories of those days in the late 1970's. Our room, 6117, was above the Star Lounge and while we could not hear the singers or music of the bands performing there, the drumbeats came through the floor, loud and clear. Fortunately, the performances were generally over by 11:15 PM and did not disturb our sleeping.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our experience in the Main Dining Room on Deck 3 was outstanding in all respects. We ate there 4 of the 5 nights we were on the ship. The wait staff, Joven and Setiawan, went above and beyond our expectations for each of the meals we enjoyed in their care. Our drink and dinner orders were taken with a minimum amount of waiting and were served very promptly. The food was great and any issues with the food, of which there were almost none, were taken care of quickly and with a smile. We looked forward to our dinners on the ship and greatly enjoyed being taken care of by Joven and Setiawan. As noted above, in additional to the Main Dining Room on deck 3, we also dined in Johnny Rockets and Windjammer. In both venues, the food and service was excellent. Of particular note was Thieses (sp?) in Johnny Rocket's and Harzel in Windjammer. Both of them obviously enjoyed what they were doing and conveyed their great service and good spirits to us as passengers. Our room steward was Jeremey and he was a pleasure to work with. He was flexible about cleaning our room since our schedule varied from day to day and the bed was made and fresh towels provided daily. I contacted Guest Services about the drums from the Star Lounges and the staff there was ready to move us to another room if necessary. Fortunately, it stopped at an early enough hour to make a room change unnecessary.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The design was excellent. Having vendors and many food options located on the Promenade was very convenient. The restrooms located near the pool areas needed attention, but given their location, this was understandable. In all other respects, the common areas were clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The layout of our cabin was good, except the king-sized bed was too large for the room. To lie down to sleep one had to either crawl over the bed or walk sideways along the walls. A queen or double bed would be a better fit and would make access much easier.

Ship tip

Treat the wait staff and other employees like gold. They work hard to make your cruise memorable and fun!

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey Did not visit port

We did not have time. Our objective was to get on and off the ship easily and efficiently and all the employees involved with our ship did their best to make that happen.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

On Monday, 6/17, we did a minibus tour of Bermuda with Simon, which was excellent. This price, $10/person/hour was quite reasonable. Simon was a knowledgeable and accommodating tour guide and gave us an excellent tour of Bermuda.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and painless. We went through all checkpoints quickly and our luggage, which had been picked up by the ship's staff was easy to find and retrieve.
