Review summary
We took our family on a cruise with Royal Caribbean on Liberty of the Seas April 10-14 2023 out of Ft. Lauderdale. We are a family of 5 (kids ages 14, 3 and 1) we booked 2 adjoining rooms with the kids in one room and mom and dad in the other. On April 12th at approximately 9:00 our 14 year old son informed us that he had misplaced his phone which contained his room keycard. Immediately upon leaning this we went down to guest services to notify them so they could deactivate the card and issue a new one. We specifically verified to make sure that the old card would be deactivated as we were getting ready to put the 3 and 1 year old to bed and wanted to make sure if the card was found no one would be able to enter the room. We were assured that when a new key card is printed the system automatically deactivated the old card. We thought all was well and put the girls to bed and then went to bed ourselves. Our teenager stayed out that evening with his friend he met on the ship and came back to the room around 11pm. When he got back to the room he woke his dad up and told him his phone was in the room when he got back with a note that read; “Hey, we found your items on a chair and went on a scavenger hunt to find your room. Your welcome, the 3 amigos. P.s. sorry for opening and entering” So basically, someone on the boat was able to use the card after we were reassured that the card was void and would not work. Not only that but they entered our room while our 2 small children were sleeping! We immediately filed a report with Royal Caribbean who apologized but did absolutely nothing to compensate for the negligence on their part that endangered our children. We were told by multiple cruise employees that this has never happened and should not have happened. There are at least 4 recorded conversations between us and cruise security to this effect. According to what we have been told by the cruise line they entered the room just before 10pm approximately 30 minutes after the card was reported lost and “deactivated”. We feel like Royal Caribbean put our family in a potentially dangerous situation and made what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation an absolute nightmare for us. Instead of being able to enjoy our trip we had to constantly check in with security for updates to try to piece together exactly what happened and make sure our children weren’t victims of assault. We kept getting different information and conflicting accounts of what actually happened depending on who we spoke with so we weren’t confident in what took place until the situation was formally reviewed by the police when we docked. What we went through was certainly not a vacation! Families Beware!Embarkation
