Review summary

I’d like to sail again perhaps on a ship that is newer and to a different destination.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We live in Fort Lauderdale and parked at the Heron Garage and got a shuttle to port 18. A quick and easy process which for me was the best option as I don’t use Uber or taxis and the parking was $60. Win - win for me because when we finally disembarked, we were able to quickly get home in about 15 min.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
1st went to assigned dining hall and the wait was over 30min. The medium well New York strip ordered came out well done and dry. Baked potato was very dry and unappetizing. “Free” drink options were unsweetened tea, lemonade and fruit punch. The remaining nights we took our meals in the windjammer which had a great selection of all kinds of food that changed daily.

Windjammer Marketplace

5 out of 5

Windjammer selection of food was very good and dinner changed daily as to not bore us with the same food day in and day out. The breakfast was basically the same daily, but hot and fresh. It didn’t disappoint.

Main Dining Room

1 out of 5

Service took too long and the food wasn’t great.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We didn’t participate in any on board activities but from what we could see, there was always something going on somewhere.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Up in the air show was very nice. We missed about 15 min, trying to find a seat - there were none available. What we did see was very good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The ship crew were very nice and polite.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Overall cleanliness - not bad Closer inspection - you can see the wear and tear of the 15 year old ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The CABIN itself was cozy. The BATHROOM was tiny and the toilets rancidity was atrocious. We sprayed poo-pourri before and after using and Lysol and had it “cleaned” daily and whether being used or not the stench lingered. The BED was firm. Much to my liking, not so much for my husband. The BALCONY was quite spacious. We didn’t have lounge chairs, but the backs did go town a few degrees allowing for a peaceful rest. Overall, I’m giving 3 stars because the smell in the bathroom drove me nuts.

Ship tip

Book shore excursions before boarding. Almost all were sold out. Try to have fun!

Ports of call

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

4 out of 5
We didn’t do an excursion. The port itself was very clean and the complimentary Trollope back and forth was a plus. There were only a few free things to do here, so we just took the trolley around the island and headed back onboard. Every thing else was so expensive and had gotten some not-so-great reviews, so I didn’t bother wasting my time. I’m not knocking the island, it’s a nice island. Again, I live in Ft Lauderdale, so the beach experience is native to me. We took this vacation to relax. It was nice to tour the island.

Nassau, Bahamas

Didn’t leave the ship. No offense to the natives of Bahamas. I’ve read hundreds of comments about the straw market, haggling, made in China items, etc and wasn’t interested in enduring that experience. My family is native to Jamaica so many trips there, I know how it is and chose to avoid. I don’t collect nick knacks. Again, just took this vacation to relax, not argue or avoid vendors/sellers.

Disembarkation

We were told we could leave anytime we wanted. We chose to leave a little after 7am. The stipulation was we had to carry our own luggage. Bet! That was an easy choice, we only brought on carry-ons anyway! Exit room in good spirits and WOW-it was almost pure chaos. From deck 9 to deck 4. Short elevator ride down and the line started. It seemed everyone got the same “memo”. We were waaved through a narrow thruway via a dining hall and out to the deck to the ramp. Those that chose to have their luggage delivered down the night before had to wait until a designated time to leave the ship. From what I could see, they only avoided moving their luggage down a ramp off the ship to a short hall to a one flight elevator or escalator (we chose the escalator). After that the chaos commenced. It was extremely disorganized and the line was sooooo long. Once off the ship, getting through customs took over an hour of scooting inches along. Then a “special” lane opened up. It looked at first to be for wheelchair accessible patrons, but very many able bodied individuals skedoodled through that line, so of course, my near by line dwellers got upset quickly.
