Review summary

The main reason me and my wife like the Liberty of the Seas is because of the Royal Prominade. The port of Galveston, being in our back yard so to speak, doesn’t hurt either. Most of the larger ships with Royal Caribbean has it so we tend to favor the Royal Caribbean cruises. When there it gives you the feel of being in a mall, not a ship. It’s a great place to hang out and relax or party. Plenty of places to get a snack or drinks. And yes, if you want to shop it has you covered. We don’t put much emphasis on the cabin because we don’t spend a lot of time there and it is fairly typical of most cruise ships. There is one exception though. We insist on having a balcony cabin. The natural light makes all the difference in the world. The amenities are typical also with other ships with one exception, “The Flowrider!” It is a surfing simulator that affords you the luxury of surfing without the ocean. It’s very fun and exciting to ride, although, if you are not feeling adventurous or courageous, it’s fun to watch other people do it. We had dinner in the main dining room several nights and, for the most part, the food was pretty good. I guess that boils down to a matter of opinion. With that said, I would highly recommend the lobster, prime rib and lamb chops! OoLaLa! This time around we skipped the shows. We cruised the Liberty before and didn’t care for the show we saw (Saturday Night Fever). There was other entertainment we wanted to see and do but didn’t get around to it (comedian, disco night in the Royal Prominade) Overall it was a very good cruise for us. Since we gamble and have a high proclivity to drink a variety of alcohol, Royal Caribbean offered us a free cruise on the Liberty in December and we accepted. It is not entirely free of course. We will have to pay port fees, taxes and gratuities. Needless to say it is still a great deal for a week long cruise. If cruising is your thing, I would definitely recommend the Liberty of the Seas or any of the Royal Caribbean cruise ships, the Navigator or larger.

No point in restricting disembarkation to schedules. Allow people to leave when they want. Lines were ridiculously long.

My hubby is a first-time cruiser, and after our cruise to Cuba was cancelled by RCL, we picked this one simply because the airfare to TX was cheaper than Florida. Thanks for your review- now I’m really excited to check out this ship!

Can’t go wrong cruising on Liberty. We enjoyed a 14 night Transatlantic cruise on her and would do another long cruise on Liberty if they change itineraries again. Know what you mean about having the cruise port in your back yard... we’re always either flying or taking a train to port!
