Review summary

Excellent cruise with friends who were first-timers. The Captain avoided Hurricane Michael completely. We had success with both private and Royal Caribbean excursions.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth from start to finish. The quickest we've ever got onboard

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The dining room staff were phenomenal. The buffet could be a little crowded but you could usually still find a seat. Food was excellent.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The water activities were fantastic. We spent most of our time at the water slides and Tidal Wave and enjoyed every minute. Even when busy the lines were not overly long and moved fast

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great stage and ice productions and guest entertainers. I was a little disappointed that there was one day when there was no Headliner or RC production in the Theater.

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
One of the best cruises we've had for service from dining room staff. Even the head waiter was attentive and visible. Our stateroom attendant was always cheerful and our room was always ready when we returned to it.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Liberty is a beautiful ship. This was our 3rd cruise on her and we'll definitely go again. We love the layout of the ship. Liberty was clean and tidy.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Standard balcony room. There is room to move around without feeling like you need to climb on the furniture! There is adequate storage areas. After several years of cruising we've found that if one of us uses the closet shelves and the other uses the dresser drawers we have plenty of space. Take some extra hangers if you think you need them. The only negative was that the fridge cabinet door and the fridge opened in opposite directions.

Ship tip

Wander around a bit to get familiar with prime locations, such as what's on the Promenade (shops, cafe, pizza, service desk), theater, dining rooms, buffet and pool deck and then relax and enjoy.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas Did not visit port

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Port is small and therefore not as commercialized or high pressured as other ports. The shops are a little more expensive. We took a private excursion with Bodden Tours to Sol y Mar Beach and had a fantastic time. Our driver was ready and waiting at the time we said we would be done.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
This port is commercialized but is also well set up , except for the distance from the ship to the port. It has the best system I've seen for finding and waiting for your Royal Caribbean Excursion. We went to Kohunlich and Dzibanche Mayan ruins. These are little known and it was great to be some of the few people there. Climbing the pyramids was one reason we selected this tour. If you go out to the ruins take a ship excursion because it does take all day and they guarantee they won't leave without you. We did not get back to the port until almost 4:30 (sailing time) and had the long 5-10 minute walk down the pier to the ship.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
The one thing I don't like about the International Pier at Cozumel is that it is a maze! It's easy to get lost and disoriented. It's very commercial and the workers are a little too high pressured for my liking. We took a Royal Caribbean ATV (Polaris) and Snorkel excursion. It was the best excursion I've ever taken. We had so much fun on the off-road portion that we wanted more!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was smooth on Royal Caribbean's part. Passing through Immigration was more difficult. Having a U.S. passport made the process quick. Our traveling companions, and most of the passengers, traveled with their birth certificate and drivers licence as their ID. It took them 3-4 times as long to pass through the immigration process than those with a passport. If you can get a passport get one!
