Review summary

I have cruised on Carnival the three times prior to this cruise and I expected a lot more based on what I have heard others say. I won't be back on Royal Caribbean. The food was awful (I lost 7 pounds in a week because I couldn't even force myself to eat the food. The rooms are very small for the money. The staff that I encountered was wonderful, but that doesn't decide how I spend 5 of my only 15 days per year of vacation.

KT, Oliver, Bernie, Romel, and Angelita are AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Onboard Activities

Wanted a bit more night life and pool time. The pool bar closed at 9 and every dang night there was a kid movie on the big screen. I understood this cruise to have less children than Carnival. Nope. In the future, I will book with Carnival and triple the quality of the rooms, nightlife for adults, pool area and food.

I don’t see how you could have starved on a cruise ship. I’ve always had the exact opposite of that problem lol. There are so many different options to choose from on the Liberty. But, it sounds like you’re loyal to Carnival. Too bad you didn’t enjoy your RCCL experience.

That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time!!! Lost 7 pounds while on the cruise.

Pinkfirefly, thanks for this excellent comment. I have not been on Carnival but what you wrote nicely summarizes the many reviews and comments I have read over the the past few years.

Well said pinkfirefly!

I've been on Carnival and Royal. Love them both for different reasons. People who love garlic, spice, and things like rare steak and escargot prefer Royal. People who like well-done steak, pizza, and chicken fingers prefer Carnival. People who like to relax, love Royal. People who like to party and live it up at 2:00am like Carnival. Different strokes for different folks.

To me Carnival is the inferior cruise line, always bothering me while I relax by the pool trying to sell me drinks constantly, And there were too many drunk and obnoxious people all over the ship. Loyal to Royal!

Everybody definitely has their own opinions, we did carnival cruises and decided to try royal (liberty of the seas). Yes it was a beautiful ship and we did have a great time, cruising is amazing. But I definitely prefer carnival. 3 of us 4 are pickier which makes a huge difference. There was no off main dining options hardly. The buffet which was horrible in our whole family's opinion and pizza that had cheese that tasted like rubber and the promanade that makes their sandwiches that already have all the lettuce and yuck on it. At least on carnival they have good pizza, the burrito bar, WOK, guys burger. And ice cream machine available 24 hours. The frozen drinks are my favorite, on royal they pour the alcohol in first then the frozen flavor last, doesn't taste the same and even if you say blended together, very few listened. Around the pool there were no servers walking around taking drink orders. Like I said we had fun but SOOOOO many more things we like about carnival

Losing weight on cruise vacation is a good thing 😉.

Your so lucky to lose some weight. I always gain no matter which cruise line... sailed the liberty twice and it was awesome. Sailed with carnival too and I liked it as well. Some things are better on royal, other things I liked more on carnival. It’s always what you make of it.

I’ve heard royal is the better ship. I have no idea it’ll be our first time cruising in August. My family and friends said they would never go on carnival again they prefer royal. So we decided to try it out! Hoping we have a good experience. Thanks for your honesty tho. It helps to see what people like and dislike.

Its difficult to please thousands of people from all over and people have different taste depending on the region you from.

This sounds like a review from a carnival employee. Everyone has their preference and in fact my room on the liberty was a lot bigger than the ones I had on carnival ships. I find carnivals food to be worse but I’m not going to starve myself.

Food on a cruise will make or break an experience. Well, smooth sailing with Carnival and start working on that lost weight. Cheers
