Ports were awesome. Food on board was terrible!

Review summary

98% sure I won’t cruise with RCCL again. Maybe if they bring a new ship to Galveston. We will see. But at this point we are sticking with Carnival.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
The embarkation process was no different from any other cruise. Long lines and waiting, so I can’t really say much about it. I feel that’s pretty normal in my experience.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The waiter we had in the MDR was great! They did a wonderful job entertaining my 1 year old. The food was horrible. I felt like I was being served subpar food in the main areas, so I would pay for better food in the other restaurants. The buffet lacked variety. The food in the MDR was very bland, and low quality. We did pay for Johnny Rockets, but it wasn’t that great either. We bought ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s a couple of times, and that was good. Overall my husband, our teenaged daughters, and I dreaded getting hungry because we didn’t want to eat the food! That makes for a long, unpleasant cruise. Especially with kids.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
My teenagers enjoyed the flow rider and rock wall, but they said the ice skating times were very restricted. We didn’t feel there were enough outdoor areas to just sit and relax. We had a hard time finding tables or deck chairs outside.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The theater show was really good. We all really enjoyed it. They had singing and dancing, and a short cirque de soleil (sp) act which we all loved.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
The children’s area was very lacking. Not much for the teens. Seemed dirty. Staff was very unenthusiastic. Our teens tried a few times, then skipped it the rest of the cruise.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The dining staff in the MDR was great. When we boarded, none of our room requests had been filled. Our bed was still two twins, and no play pen for our little one. Also, our rooms weren’t cleaned some days.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was ok in cleanliness overall. We didn’t like the layout. The main mall-like area was always way too crowded. It was very pretty, but the flow of the ship seemed to funnel everyone together.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Beds were very comfortable. The room was much like most cruise ship cabins we’ve been in. Room didn’t get cleaned every day.

Ship tip

I didn’t see what all the RCCL fuss was about. We sailed on Carnival 4 times before this cruise and was much more pleased with our experience with them. Would love to try some other cruise lines in the future, but will probably stick with Carnival as they cruise close to home, and RCCL is the only other choice, and I can safely say we won’t sail with them again in the near future.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Close to home!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

We really enjoyed the beach.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Best port of call EVER! Little French Key was PARADISE!

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Been here five times with cruises and always a wonderful time. We have been to Mr. Sanchos Beach Club three of those times, and it’s still our favorite thing to do in Cozumel.

Disembarkation

Same as other cruises. You just have to be patient. But overall things went fairly smoothly.

Good luck! Never Carnival for us. No confidence in there safety standards and emergency procedures.

Sometimes you just know what you like. When you’re on vacation you want it all working the way you like it. Have a great next cruise!
