Review summary

We did a seven day cruise with an excursion in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Falmouth and enjoyed all of them! We went to the shows that the ship provided on all nights and ate in the Main Dining Room.

Embarkation

We bought a parking spot online at Galveston Park N Cruise. It is a short walk across the street or they can give you a ride on a cart. We loaded our luggage on their cart and went to the stoplight and they let us off to walk across the street to the port. Very easy. We dropped off our luggage at the port and went inside to embark. We got there about 11:00 and the lines were pretty short. It went fast. We were in a Junior Suite so we got on board immediately when we went upstairs to the waiting area. Galveston Port has made it pretty fast and easy to get on board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
I didn't eat at the specialty restaurants because I felt there was already food in the buffet and main dining room. Did not feel like I was missing out by not going. We ate at the buffet for a brunch and ate at the Main dining room for an evening meal. The buffet was very busy and chaotic in the mornings. And it was hard to find a table throughout the cruise in the morning. At lunch time, it was easier finding a table except the first day. There was always something you could find to eat to your liking at the buffet. In the Main Dining room I liked the Prime Rib and Lobster the best. I always asked the waiter which dishes they liked the best if I couldn't choose which one I wanted. They generally steered me in the right direction. They now require if one person in the cabin buys a drink package the other person in the cabin will have to buy one also. They started that the beginning of October. My husband had bought one prior to October but I didn't have to. If you bought it before you are grandfathered in. It makes the cruise much more expensive if you have to buy it even if the other person is not a heavy drinker. We will not buy the drink package next time.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We are in our 50's. During the sea days there is not much scheduled during the morning or day. Most of what is on the schedule is to sell you something. We enjoyed the hot tub, mini golf, ping pong, water slide, walking the track, laying on the lounge chairs, napping, and gazing at the stars at night.

Entertainment

Definitely go to the ice show! We really enjoyed it! The Marriage game was funny to. All the shows were worth going to except Saturday Night Live. We didn't enjoy it and some people left before it was over. It's the reason I gave the 4 stars. The story is a downer for the last night of the cruise and has a very odd ending of dancers coming on the stage after a very heavy depressing story line. The other shows are worth 5 stars.

Service and Staff

Our waiters were wonderful. They were very helpful and took our orders very quickly. Our room steward, Yogi, was awesome! The first night we slept the bed was hard as a board. We asked if he could do anything about and he placed padding and extra comforter to make it softer. It helped a lot! I had also asked for ice the first day and he made sure I had ice the rest of the cruise. Every time we left the room, he cleaned it! He was very professional!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is very easy to navigate getting from one place to another, but if you need to use the elevator be prepared to wait. We ended up using the stairs a lot! Ship was clean and well maintained with just a little carpet wear here and there.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a junior suite on level 9 where the ship bumps out below the whirl pool in the solarium. It was like having a hotel room with a large balcony. It had a bathtub and a walk in closet. The only thing I had a complaint about was the hardness of the bed, but that was corrected by the second night by adding a pad and comforter to sleep on that the steward added.

Ship tip

Pre purchase excursions before you go. It is cheaper and less stressful than doing it on the ship. If you purchase through the ship, they will not leave you. Also, if you want to eat at the 5:30 Main Dining Room, make sure you reserve it early and everyone in your group as well. It gets filled up fast!

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

Went to the Coba pyramid and swam in a Cenote. I did enjoy it, but it was too rushed at the pyramid. You don't get to look at anything else hardly if you elect to climb the pyramid.

George Town, Grand Cayman

We bought a snorkel tour from the cruiseline. We met on the dock and walked to the the boat. The boat had all the gear to snorkel, however we used our own. The boat then went a couple of hundred yards and we were able to get into the water to see the Devil's grotto. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't have a problem paying the guide, he knew where the interesting places to go were!

Falmouth, Jamaica

We went on the Chukka Horseback Ride N Swim from the cruise line. We really enjoyed this excursion too! The busdriver was entertaining and gave us a little history as we drove to the tour. The bus ride was smooth and comfortable. The driver was a good driver. We got there and were matched up to horses and given a helmet to wear. We were offered a Jerk chicken meal for an additional price. We didn't purchase it, so I can't tell you if it was good. They also had mixed drinks and chips for sale and you could rent a locker for $5 if you needed it. The ride was in sun and also part shade on land. For the water part we changed horses fitted with special cushion seats and reins for the water. For the most part the horse will be able to reach the bottom. There was only a few moments the horse was swimming. There was a 7 year old girl who was in the group and she managed fine. The people who led the horses took special care with the little girl and led her horse into the water and stayed beside her. She was having a blast!

Disembarkation

Disembarking was a breeze. We decided to walk our luggage off. We were one of the first to get off, but still had a long line when we went to level 4 to disembark. However the line was very quick and we never really stopped walking in line. We had parked across the street in paid parking and walked there with no problem. Got in our car and left with little traffic about 8:15.
