Review summary

With the bad experience of someone stealing the scooter, just average food, constant up charges for dining experiences & fitness classes, I don't plan on booking another Royal Caribbean cruise. Just don't think I I'd feel safe on it knowing kids are running around unsupervised and undetected by security and stealing our scooter. I'm going back to Princess and maybe try Hollander America.

Embarkation

Easy and quick process

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
In main dining room the food was adequate but nothing outstanding. Steak on "regular" menu was tough. Prime rib was a special one night and very fatty. No one dessert was epic -- good but nothing special. Buffet had lots of choices but average at best.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There were plenty to chose from but too ambitious for my style of cruising. Watching the surfing was entertaining.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Ice show was fabulous but rest of entertainment was marginal. The big show -- Saturday Night Fever was well performed but I question the subject matter. On the last night we have a show with a suicide in it? Too much drama. We just wanted fun!!

Children's Programs

No children with us

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Room steward was exceptional (Alvin). Very attentive. Main dining room waiters were good and became excellent after we complained to head waiter about forgetting cocktail sauce for the shrimp cocktail 3 nights in a row. Other ship personnel seed competent but rarely had a smile. On other cruise lines, the personnel seemed happy to be there and to serve us. On RC, they were just doing their jobs. One exception was IBUPUTU, our assistant waiter.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Cleanliness wasn't an issue but ship us showing wear especially in carpet in stairs. Hated to gave to walk through smoke filled casino to traverse the ship. To get to level 3 of Platinum Theater we went to deck 3 and then had to go to 4 to cross ship and then back down to 3. Fine if you can take the stairs but my husband is in a motarized scooter so we spent a lot of time waiting for elevators!!

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Room was large, extremely clean and well appointed. Balconey was adequate in size but could have used a foot rest or more comfortable chairs. Bed was very comfortable. Room had plenty of storage (didn't even use all the drawers). Lots of little shelves hidden behind mirrors, etc. Could have used a few more hangers in the closet.

Ship tip

We had some unruly kids on our cruise. One even stole my husbands motarized scooter and took it for a joy ride while we were in the theater. He drove it all over the back of the theater (deck 4) and onto the outside deck (per an eyewitness) and ran the battery down. We complained to security especially since the bartender had to have witnessed it and never called anyone. They took our report and dismissed us with a promise to follow up -- whatever that means.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
Galveston had so much to offer if you can past her worn down look. The historic mansions are fabulous, Pleasure Pier is expensive but fun. Tour of oil rig is amazing

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

3 out of 5
We did the Best of Roatan Island Tour. It was well organized but there's not much to see.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

2 out of 5
Long walk to get to the tour groups but we had an excellent one -- Chacchoben Ruins Exclusive Drive. Small group in a van with a extremely knowledgeable guide. He talked just enough without feeling every second had to be filled with noise. Learned so much from him on the ride out and we had headsets at the ruins so we could easily hear his lecture even if we drifted away to stay under the shade.

Cozumel, Mexico

We did the Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins tour. Again is was a small group and this time we were given tablets to help explain the site. These ruins were much more elaborate than Chacchoben but guide wasn't quite as good.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We have no complaints but we were also shuttled to front of line since my husband is handicapped. Our disembarkation time was 9:45 am and we were called at 9:40 am. When we were in line at immigration we noticed people in the next line over had a disembarkation time of 8:45 am. They were in line over an hour but not sure the cruise line can do anything to speed up immigration.
