Review summary
Things went along well on this trip until my husband got deathly ill. We stayed on the ship when it docked on Belize because we have been so many times before. Had a great day in Cozemal and only drank each a bottle of ware. We always have a policy of not eating on shore, not trusting the food. Even in chain restaurants. I don't trust the hygiene to always be up to par with the US. Our first morning out to sea my husband had scrambled eggs from the buffet. They were pretty funny and just on the warm side. He just ate them with the sausages and that was that. By 10 am he was sweating with stomach cramps and vomiting. He kept thinks it would go away. When he started having chills so violent that the bed was shaking he finally told me to call medical. They were very good and professional. He was given Imodium tablets and told to take them along with something for vomiting. In the mean time we were quarantined to the room. We were also told we couldn't take out luggage and leave it outside the door because it could contaminate others. I understood the reasoning behind this. The next morning we couldn't find anyone to help us and we decided to just try to take the luggage out with us and walk off. It was a grueling hour and a half of standing in line and my husband being so weak he had to sit wherever he could. Thank goodness there was a porter by customs. He also showed my husband where the restroom was. Very nice guy. When we got home we received a letter that said we would receive credit for my husband for the day he was inconvenienced on a future cruise. I think we are going back to Carnival where we have cruised for years. The rooms are bigger, the food is better and you don't have to pay extra for a Guys Burger that is much better than Johnny Rockets anyway. The only way my husband could have gotten sick was from food on the ship. I hope he was the only one!
