Review summary
My father purchased this cruise for my family as a Christmas gift. He was able to get a very good room rate and some good promotions: Paid gratuities; $75 on board credit from Royal Caribbean; $75 matching credit from the travel agent; Free specialty dinner for two; Kids sail free; $25 on board credit from Royal Caribbean for first time cruisers from the Crown and Anchor Society.
While all of this looked good when the three rooms were booked, none of the credits materialized during the cruise. My dad spoke numerous times during the cruise to guest services and the crown and anchor ambassador about the credits....was always told they had limited access or ability to do anything; that they had to call the main office in Miami, which finally said there was no record of credits to be made and that my dad had to prove such a thing to make it valid otherwise. I guess they thought my dad was making this up or something. Anyway, after seeing how he was treated, I will NEVER use Royal Caribbean again.
No one seemed to care that we were frustrated, confused, stressed out, about all this....which boils down to being lied to by the cruise line. I'm not sure how Royal Caribbean got to be the top cruise line based on what I have witnessed on this our first cruise. Yes, they may have all the latest, fancy ships, but service means everything and that is lacking from what I saw on this, my first and now last, cruise with Royal Caribbean.
Oh, I almost forgot....had to pay for one of my children in order to board the ship....they claimed my 14 month old owed $30.40 that was not paid for during the reservation of the rooms. Kids sail free, I asked....was told that only covers two children. This was never disclosed during the reservation process.

I don't know if this is RCI's problem or the TA's problem, but I can't hold any blame to the poster. The $30 for the child sounds like port charges, not fare -- even if you sail free you will still owe port charges.
DSWalke2 - I'd get with my travel agent to find out why what he promised didn't materialize. When you book with a TA rather than directly, you hand all power over your booking to the TA -- the lines will not generally deal with you.

You NEVER got anything in writing what you would be receiving? You worked with a travel agent and it never came up about your 14month old? ... Even if you never cruised before, this stuff is common sense! Why even bother with the TA? It should have been double confirmed and then you bring your invoice on board with you for the unexpected ... not entirely RC's fault. You guys need to take some responsibility
