Review summary

While we had great time with the excursions and amenities, dealing with the rude kids and their parents was the worst on this cruise.  We only get to cruise during the summer because my wife is a teacher and this cruise had the worst kids and even worse parents.  One night, after the 10 pm, while trying to enjoy piano player at the Schooner Bar a grandmother camped out 8 grand kids while the parents were in the casino. Needless to say they took up a large portion of the bar and were only there to play on their phones and pads.  All kids were under 8 and 2 spent most of the time asleep.  When I brought this up to the staff and a supervisor I was told there was nothing they could do because it wasn't off limits to kids.  So after tipping the waiters we left and didn't return.  And won't return on summer cruises out of Galveston.  We're looking forward to a Adult Only resort we have already booked for next summer.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Windjammer food gets old after day 2 and I even had to send 2 dinners back in the main seating dinner because they were just plain nasty. Avoid their recommended Fried Fish and Shrimp. Fish were no better than an frozen fish from the store. Best money spent was spending 3 nights dinning in the specialty dining restaurants.

Royal needs to start adding more Adults only areas and enforcing their No Kids under 16 in the areas marked other than the casino.

Cabin was great. While you may not get all the extras with a Grand Suite or above the Jr. Suite has an amazing balcony and very comfortable. Ruan Benjamin, our Stateroom Attendant was great.

Why is ppl think i am complaining abt to many children.....the problem that time is they were very rude with no manners. I have 17 grandchildren and 3 great grands so children r not the problem.....it's when u push past ur elders to get off or on elevators or cursing that's when i have a problem......if u can't understand that then oh well!

The food is average on this ship. The chocolate desserts lacked flavor. I would order FOUR salads THREE entrees and one of EVERY dessert every night in the MDR until I found something I liked. My kid had a great time on this ship, while I was mainly bored and slightly inebriated from morning bloody marys with breakfast until night cap brandy before bed. As far my kid, she was very well supervised for which I paid. SUGGESTION: If you want your ship to be pretty much kid-free, sail on Celebrity or Holland-America--NO WATER SLIDES and more people with walkers than in the game arcade.

True that!!

That's just bad parenting. Just my opinion.

In 2014 we left out of Portia Rico in Nov b4 break and it was like a floating day care 4 7 days.....i think every child in PR was on the ship, made me wonder if they had different school times. Being there wasn't the big problem it's just that they were very rude and disrespectful! Pushing off and on elevators in front of guests, running in front of u and never saying excuse me or thank u .....it was crazy!!

Were the kids being loud or unruly? From your description, they were simply taking up space. Schooner Bar is open to everyone, so I'm having trouble understanding the problem.

We had kids all over the age of 11 and they definitely would not even think of waiting there. I can't understand why if they have the arcade and the pool?

We do a family vacation with our 12 yr old usually in April and my husband and I go alone in September or October every year.....for this very reason.

Yeah we do cruises without the kids when we want adult time and cruises with the kids and spend time with them. We do use the kids camp some but dumping your kids in a bar seems ridiculous.

And October. I wish they could make the bars off limits to children but I understand why they don't also.

Unfortunately that is with any cruise or vacation you do in the summer that's the only time people with children can go on vacation. That is when the parents should be parents and control their children and spend time with them instead of pawning them off on someone. I get wanting to have adult fun but you go on a family vacation to spend time with family. This is why I take my cruises in April
