Review summary

The ports of call were the best part of this cruise. I would not recommend this ship in the future. The amount of people on this ship was far to many for the activities and space available on board. There were 3600 passengers and 1000 crew. That is want one of the crew members told us.This ship was recently renovated to accommodate 600 more passengers. The activities on board were not published in the daily newsletter. It was hard to find things to do that would accommodate everyone in the evening. The anytime dining was the best choice to be able to eat when you wanted but the dress code was never enforced for example no shorts and t shirts hats in dining room- this happened on formal night. The service at dinner was slow and the food was fair. The portion were small compared to other cruises we have been on.

How is sailing in December before school lets out I hope it is not as crowded

Rules are rules, regardless of your opinion of the standards of behavior and dress that are considered acceptable. I'm a shorts and sandals guy, almost always wear a hat and shirts with collars--polos. I hate ties, and socks. Yet, for one meal--one night--I sacrifice my drabness to make myself look spiffy. I have a buddy, on Carnival he's known as "Captain Jack," I think he's a Diamond. He "dresses up" wearing a pair of black jeans and a black crew-neck t-shirt. Disgusting! He describes it as a "formal" t-shirt. Insane. He's one of my best friends and I would move rather than let him sit at my table wearing that getup on formal night.

I felt the same way cdchrits. Ports were great! We were not happy with the ship, activities, scheduling, over crowded ship, etc.

lgdavid    8 years ago

That's true. I remember when you dressed in your Sunday best to fly and women always had gloves on and they both had hats no matter where they went and you never saw women in pants! I couldn't even wear pants to school. Times have really, really changed and I am good with it. L

Cruise attire has changed and its not the cruise line that change its the time we live in ,times have changed. Our first cruise was all the dress up for the special dining. Look around even teachers and bankers dont dress the way they use to remember causal Fridays..

Worrying about other people is going to cause you to be unhappy and not have a good time. Like I said we do dress up but we don't go all out in tuxedos and ball gowns. That's not us so we will not do it.

BrandyLee    8 years ago

The sad truth is that is how life works because that's how people make it work. If I pay for something I except to get what I wanted. Here's my point of it all, we can't judge people and know their reasons behind things. We also can't let it effect our vacation, what I am saying is if you go all out then do so if you don't that's fine. It's each person choice and we should t let it effect our time

jallaway    8 years ago

Of course I'm exaggerating; but formal nights actually soon may become a thing of the past. We should all be a bit concerned about the "I'm paying for this, I can do what I want" mentality. That's just not how life works.

BrandyLee    8 years ago

Jallaway it doesn't look like a Denny's on non formal night so yeah chill

marque    8 years ago

lol! whatever

jallaway    8 years ago

The cruise lines are already thinking of dropping formal nights. So, you all may get your wish. But mark my words, you'll all be missing the old days when the MDR is turned into a Denney's at Sea with unshaven bums in baseball caps and flip flops abounding.

I hope your family AND everyone else has a great time!

Marque I agree with you. Nicely said we saved all our money to be Able to get this room. This is my boyfriends first vacation ever and also my step grandpas either one of them have never been on a "family" vacation so all I am worried about is having fun how we want to.

marque    8 years ago

well, I'm still a rookie. I'll only be on my 3rd 8 day cruise on RC in the Grand Suite for the 3rd time in 14 months. So what. if someone doesn't have a fancy outfit that wants to go to the dinner served on formal night, my husband and I will be happy to lend or give up our formal attire. Happy sailing everybody! life's too short to be a hater. 😉

marque    8 years ago

I agree,....there's a lot of southerners getting on the ship since it's based in Texas. There's a lot of Southern hospitality still. instead of being judgemental you may want to keep in mind that it's possible that some of those people had to save a long time for that vacation and MAYBE they can't afford an expensive suit or dress.

BrandyLee    8 years ago

Oh and again it says formal attire, people's formal attire might be different than yours just chill out. Lordy... All I have to say is we paid our money ( probably more than most cause we have the presidential family suite) so we can go eat in the dinning room even if we're not decked out in tuxedos and fancy ball gowns

BrandyLee    8 years ago

Look if they do not strictly enforce it why do you worry about it. People if you would worry about yourself you would have a better time. You can not tell me that you haven't dressed up really nice to go out to dinner in your town and been near people who weren't dressed as nice. Just leave it to each their own.

kandee88    8 years ago

The point is if they have a dress code, it should be respected. Losing your luggage is one thing but outside of that if you can't follow the dress code on formal night then don't go

BrandyLee    8 years ago

It's crazy how upset some of you people are getting. Some people go all out others do not. You also have to remember everyone is different. We're country folk so pretty sure our "formal" isn't what others think it should be, but the fact is its formal to us. My boyfriend never wears anything but jeans but he is actually buying some Khaki pants and a blazer for formal night. worry about urself

marque    8 years ago

not wanting to and having your luggage lost are two different things.

kandee88    8 years ago

Yes and there are other places on the ship to eat if they don't want to dress formally that night

marque    8 years ago

well Dorothy, you're not in Kansas anymore . If someone has their luggage lost, it's not their fault. and if someone isn't dressed as "fancy" as you think you are, and it ruins your atmosphere...maybe they're not the ones with a problem. I'm sure they paid for their cruise just like everyone else so they have a right to be served dinner too.

kandee88    8 years ago

There is a reason it is formal night, if your not interested in dressing up don't take your self down there and ruin the atmosphere for those that are

I have to say the family who sat at out table had one of their pieces of luggage lost and they had to come in non dressy dresses. One of the persons in our party forgot to pack their suite. It really didn't matter to me how they were dressed though.

Kimjoy    8 years ago

Yes please do @marque we sail Jan 29. I'm curious if there would be less people or if it would always be full no matter what time of year:)

marque    8 years ago

what activities did you see that were not on the daily schedule?? I've never seen that happen. as far as how many people are aboard, this is peak cruising season. Summer time and Spring Break and when kids are not in school. I just went June 19th and it was pretty full. 3700 guests alone. The only inconvenience was occasionally full or slow elevators. I'm going again October 2nd. during a slower time, kind of "off season". The rates are amazing and kids will be in school!. I can't wait to see the difference. I will surely report back to all of you how it was.

Well...I do care on formal nights. It's supposed to be "fancy dress up night". Why would anyone do this to end up sitting next to hobo Joe.
