Review summary

This was our first cruise from Galveston with Royal Caribbean.  It was seven nights.  The ship is grand and has a long promenade with shopping and restaurants, multiple arenas (an ice rink, a studio, a theatre) and two floors of outside activities of pools, childrens area, hot tubs and outdoor movie screen. We had an oceanview room on the third level and were quite happy with it... on the fourth floor was a deck where we could sit outside if we wanted, was just two floors from the promenade, and had easy access to all the arenas. It was super easy to go up and down for excursions (while everyone else was waiting for the elevators) and our attendant was as conscientious as if we were in a royal suite.  Check in and departure were speedy and professional, and the staff that we met (Excursions, Guest Relations, Medical) were all friendly and courteous.  We were a bit disappointed with the food and service the first couple of days, which accounts for the four-star rating, but after that it was stellar.  We were also a wee bit disappointed with the selection of RC souvenirs, but the clerk said it was unusual, so they must have had some time delays for shipments due to the bad weather when we left Galveston.  Would we do it again?  Sure, we've already booked another one for next year.

Ship tip

Plan your excursions .... we had to make a couple of changes and many were already filled. Make sure you bring or buy the Evian water package -- hydration is of supreme importance. We went through 12 large Evian bottles on the trip. Bring a light sweater for walking around at night.

Falmouth, Jamaica

We took the walking tour and it was just long enough to get a "Jamaica" feel and have time for shopping at the oh-so-nice pier. To do the Dunn's River falls tour, you need water shoes.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
There are an abundance of excursions, all of which appear to be quite well handled. We were not especially impressed with the prices of the shop items near the pier. There is a little cove to the left of the pier which had all sorts of wildlife -- crabs, coral fish and roosters were walking the streets.

Cozumel, Mexico

When taking the ferry to Plaza del Carmen and you are advised "could produce sea sickness", be aware that they mean it! We were impressed with the cleanliness of both Cozumel and Plaza del Carmen. Make sure you have cab money in small bills even if you don't think you will need one.
