My spouse and I enjoyed this cruise very much and would recommend it. There was plenty to do during the sea days, we learned a lot about Hawaii while on board, and we enjoyed our excursions in the islands, especially to Volcanos National Park.

Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We liked the main dining room. It was relatively quiet, the service was good, and the food selections were good. However, one of our group was a vegetarian, and there was only one veg entree at dinner. The buffet had many veg entrees and sides available. Good breakfast choices too, including soaked muesli.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We attended the lectures, interviews with senior officers, and movies. All were interesting. I appreciated first-run movies, including Barbie and Oppenheimer,
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The performances were good on the whole. There was only one comedian whose act was not my style. The musicians and dancers were first-rate.
Children's Programs
We did not travel with children.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
First-rate, especially the cabin stewards, but also waiters, program staff, and front-desk staff.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship is very comfortable and was well-maintained. All common areas were very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom

The bed was very comfortable, plenty of pillows. There was enough room. The couch could have used another pillow or two. The TV was placed so that it was best seen from the bed, whereas it would have been nice to be able to see it from the couch. The balcony on the port side was wet throughout most of the voyage. With that and the colder temps, I was not able to sit out on it for this trip.
Ship tip
If you want to eat at one of the specialty restaurants, book your reservations early. Consider a starboard side balconly.
Quick, orderly, and well-managed. I was bracing for the long lines and chaos that I experienced last year on an NCL ship, but it didn't happen. Kudos to HAL for getting us off and to the airport quickly.
We did this 17 day cruise on Koningsdam last January. I was worried about 10 sea days. HAL had many cultural activities planned along with great talks about all aspects of Hawaii. I especially loved the hula and ukulele lessons with the big theater concert at the end where everyone who participated got to show what they learned. Kept us busy and entertained. MDR food is some of the best at sea in our opinion. It was our second cruise on Koningsdam. It’s a wonderful experience for those who appreciate more of a classic cruise experience without all the loudness or continuous partying. Husband wants to do this cruise again , with the continuation into the South Pacific next time. So happy you enjoyed Hawaii and Koningsdam!
