Review summary

We had an excellent cruise and can't wait to book another one with Holland America especially on the Koningsdam. The only real surprise was the number of families with young children and teenagers on this cruise. We have been on many Holland cruises and have rarely seen families in the past. We have no complaints but it was a bit of a surprise to us.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
It was very easy and everyone was very friendly and accommodating!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food in the main dinning was very good with nice size portions and excellent quality. Likewise the breakfast and lunch buffets were very good with a wide variety of options that were all very tasty! We felt no need to boob a specialty restaurant which we normally do on cruise ships.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the game room where we played mah-jongg. We also enjoyed bingo and various trivia contests. Plenty of places to just relax and read!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed the dueling pianos in the Billboard room. We spent every night listen to the two very talented performers. We also really liked the band and singers in the BB King Blues Club, they were excellent. Finally, we enjoyed the classic rock band in the Rolling Stone Rock Room. We only entertainment that was average at best was the comedian in the big theatre.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone from our room stewards to waiters and servers were excellent!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This was a beautiful ship and every aspect of it was top notch from the dinning room, buffet, pools to the entertainment venues, game room and library!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was a very comfortable cabin and we loved the really nice shower!

Ship tip

I wouldn't bother to book a specialty restaurant since the food is so good in the main dining room.

Ports of call

San Diego, California

5 out of 5

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
We really liked our sunset sail but did not enjoy walking along the streets with all the shops, bars and restaurants near the marina. The local Mexicans are far too aggressive in trying to sell you something that you do not need or want. We were also surprised by the strong presence of armed Police and Military personnel. It did not make us feel comfortable and reminded us of Jamaica!

Ensenada, Mexico

4 out of 5
We took a bus tour to Rosarita Beach and the Lobster Village that was excellent. Didn't really experience Ensenada.

Hi 👋, good review for a cruise I’m looking at for next November…my main concern is how rough are the seas going down and back? We are in FL, so used to the Caribbean (which can also have some wavey days). Should I worry? Thanks!

You don’t usually find that many children normally but it’s common at school vacations as HAL let’s children travel free with their parents. All of the other times you don’t see them.
