Review summary

New Year's engagement cruise. Best cruise I've taken thus far. I love the Radiance Class ships. Cannot wait when the Brilliance of the Seas is home ported in Tampa in 2018!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
At the time (12/31/2012) ... might be better since writing of this review (August 2017) Port of Tampa needed better traffic management of getting cars in and out. Additionally, when we were waiting in line, there was no difference in the security administrative search for suite guests. I've been to other ports and cruise lines and they had separate lines for VIP and Suite guests. Once we went through the administrative search security checkpoint, checking in at the counter was smooth sailing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
MDR was on point. Standard high class RCCL food and service. Chops Grill was excellent. Having been to other high end steakhouses (Bern's, Ruth Crists, Smith & Lowenski, Morton's), it obviously didn't rate as high as those places, but compared to the MDR, it was exceptional. Bar service was good at most of the lounges. The Safari Club / Congo Club was way too large as it didn't draw a big enough crowd each night to be worth time spending in. The Schooner's Bar was where most of the action was late into the evening. Having a great pianist and lively crowd sitting around the piano makes it well worth while!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Excellent diversity of activities for all ages and types of people. If you can't find something you wouldn't enjoy, then yo have no business being on a cruise ship!!!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service was as excepted for RCCL. One issue did come up with our pre-planned appointment for mani/pedi and couple's massage which got all messed up. Even as a grand suite guest, they couldn't get it rectified. RCCL offered a $400 voucher in my parent's name since they were the primary as compensation for the mess up.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean. Modern decor.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Grand Suite. This should be your minimum goal for any RCCL cruise!

So you got engaged, on a cruise, on New Years? How so ordinarily common. Everyone does that! Just kidding! Sounds like a super romantic way to propose.
